Market Updates
--------------------
Show your appreciation for April at the Hollywood Farmers Market. With live music, breakfast and lunch options, and of course farm and forest fresh vegetables, fruits, and fungus, you can transform your grocery shopping trip into an enjoyable Saturday experience.

We welcome our newest farm vendor to the market this week, so come say hello to Rise Up Remedies. They manage a half acre medicinal herb and mushroom farm in Gresham, and offer wide variety of fresh and dried herbs, salves, infused oils, tea blends, salt blends, plant starts and more.

For many the spring = salad season, and along with tender greens, crisp radishes and turnips, and tasty spring onions, you can boost up your spring salad bowl with some other farmers market fresh ingredients. Try toasting and adding some hazelnuts or walnuts from Sun Gold Farm, toss in some leftover roasted or grilled asparagus from Maryhill or ProFarm, crumble in some raw aged goats milk feta from Fraga Farmstead Creamery, or add a blast of tang with some fermented pickles from The Fermentista.

Wet Wizard Sauce Company returns for their first market of the spring. They will be at the market once a month this season, so pick up a bottle of Pear Habanero, Harissa, or Los Roast Verde Hot Sauce and put it on everything, and then re-stock in a few weeks when they are back again. 503 Distilling and Glasshaus Gardens also return to market this week.

We look forward to seeing you at the market!
SNAP Match Fundraiser Day & Silent Auction is June 1st!
 -------------------
During our June 1st market we will be holding our 2nd annual silent auction to raise money for our SNAP Match program.

This program offers low-income shoppers a match for shopping at the market, meaning SNAP/EBT card users can receive up to an additional $10 every week to be used at the market. These matching funds help make farm direct, fresh, healthy foods affordable to all, while supporting small farmers here in Oregon.

Mark your calendars for this FUN-draising event! For item donations please contact event chair Jemae McCanna ( jemaemccanna@gmail.com).
Volunteer at the Hollywood Farmers Market!
--------------------
Did you know that more than 20 of your neighbors volunteer each Saturday to help make the Hollywood Farmers Market happen? We have a wonderful and dedicated cadre of volunteers, but we need even more people to join us! Among other things, market volunteers:

  • Run the information booth during market days, answering customers' questions, and selling merchandise;
  • Help breakdown the market between 1 and 2pm, taking down tents, tables, etc and packing them away;
  • Write articles and vendor profiles for our newsletter and website;
  • Starting in June, help run kids' activities each week in our POP Club booth.

And much more! Volunteer shifts can be as short as 1 hour, or as long as the whole market day. If you're interested in any above, contact Ari at ari@hollywoodfarmersmarket.org to get more info.

Purple Sprouting Broccoli
Persephone Farm
Get that last taste of spring with purple sprouting broccoli! This variety produces little clusters of purple buds, as opposed to the big green florets that we're used to. It's so thin and tender that it can be cooked almost any way - steamed, stir-fried, even grilled! This coming Saturday will probably be Persephone Farm's last for the spring, but they will return to the Hollywood Farmers Market in late June or early July.

Hazelnut Meal
Sun Gold Farm
Sun Gold Farm is now grinding their hazelnuts into hazelnut flour/meal! It's great for gluten-free baking, or substitute up to 1/3 of the flour in your recipe for hazelnut flour for extra richness and nutty texture.

Balsamic Pistachio Hummus
Roundhouse Foods
This is one of Roundhouse's most popular hummuses. The overall flavor is well-balanced, with the fruitiness of the balsamic vinegar balancing the sweetness of the pistachios and mellow roasted garlic. Stop by their booth and try it, along with four other regular flavors, and a rotating weekly flavor.
