September rolled in and with it came our favorite season, Football Season!

The Bailey & Wyant Team proudly wore their College Colors on National College Colors Day.

From cheering on our beloved Mountaineers in Milan Puskar Stadium to chanting "We Are" from Joan C. Edwards Stadium, our football fans can be heard talking about weekend scores and exceptional runs by the water cooler.
Member attends DRI Seminar in New Orleans

Mr. Bailey with Gregory W. Bowman, Dean of the WVU College of Law.
Bailey & Wyant, PLLC Member, Suleiman Oko-ogua attended a DRI Seminar in New Orleans two weeks ago on Nursing Home/ ALF Litigation.

The Seminar offered informative sessions including insider prospective on what providers want from long-term care defense counsel as well as helpful information to empower caregivers to be a source of proof and provide impactful testimony.

Crisis Situations were covered extensively over two days, including scenarios of workplace violence that facilities guard against and the types of claims that may result from these crisis situations.

Guest Speakers, Dr. Mark Elam, and Dr. Roger Harris discussed dementia as an incurable disease and a cause of death. Dr. Elam and Mr. Harris discussed how to defend improper allegations that decline, weight loss, wounds, infections, and death are related to substandard care when they are in fact the manifestations of terminal dementia. Another medical professional, Dr. Victor Romano, was able to present important clarifications on various types and mechanics of fractures and their relationship to osteoporosis and related underlying conditions was discussed to give attorneys a better perspective on these cases.

"It was a great opportunity to meet and network with other lawyers and industry professionals to discuss emerging issues within long term care litigation," said Oko-ogua.

The information obtained in other sessions, included Emerging Claims in Home Health, Risk Management Programs in Assisted Living and New CMS Regulations. Other topics discussed on site included utilizing electronic media records in long-term care litigation and ethical pitfalls presented to caregivers.
