Market Updates
--------------
The market just keeps getting better week after week, and with the return of Liepold Farms and their Boring, OR grown fruit, the first cherries of the season at Maryhill Fruit Company, and the start of the Power Of Produce (POP) Club kids programming, tomorrow's market is no exception. We are in the heart of Hood strawberry season, so make sure to buy in bulk from Deep Roots Farm, Happy Harvest Farm, and Unger Farms before this short seasoned favorite is gone until next year.

Make more out of your shopping trip to the farmers market, and turn your visit into a meal, music enjoyment, and community engagement. With ready to eat food options ranging from seasonal Umi Organic noodle bowls, Somalian specialties, French style crepes at Suzette, Ramona's famous breakfast burritos, handmade sausage grilled up fresh, melt in your mouth tamales at Montiel's Cocina, and baked pastry options savory or sweet, you can come for breakfast and leave with lunch. And wash it all down with fresh hot coffee and cold brew from the female crew at Central City Coffee, and cold pressed juices from Portland Juice Company. Of course there's a variety of seasonal lemonades and agua frescas to slurp down as well.

We also have More Bees, Townshend's Distillery, and Ken & June's Hazelnuts joining us this week. We look forward to seeing you at the market!
Thank You for a Successful Silent Auction!
--------------------
This past Saturday's silent auction was a huge success - thanks to your generous bids, we managed to raise almost $ 4,500 for our SNAP Match program! This means that hundreds of low-income families will be able to shop at the farmers market. Thanks also to all the neighborhood businesses who donated items to the auction!

If you missed the auction, but would still like to make a donation to the SNAP Match program, you can:

or

  • Bring a cash or check donation to our information booth (at the corner of 44th and Hancock) any Saturday during the farmers market.
POP Club begins!
 -------------------
POP Club is here! Our summer kids program, Power of Produce (POP) Club, begins this Saturday, June 8th. POP Club will run every Saturday through August 31st. This free program empowers kids to make healthy food choices, introducing them to where their food comes from through fun activities.

This week's POP Club activity will be: Seed Planting!

Here's how POP Club will work:

  • Kids aged 5-12 come to the POP Club booth between 9am and 12:30pm on market day, located in Hancock Street toward the east (45th Ave) entrance to the market.
  • Fill out their POP Club passports if this is their first visit to the booth.
  • Participate in activities based around food, nutrition and food growing. At every POP Club market you can find activities such as produce tastings, salad-making, scavenger hunts, games and more!
  • Receive $2 in POP Club wooden tokens EVERY time they come to market during the POP Club season!

See you Saturday at the market!

Hood Strawberries
Unger Farms
The long-awaited Hood strawberries are here! These little deep-red bursts of flavor are an Oregon treasure, and an ephemeral one. The season for Hoods usually only lasts about three weeks, so get them while they last!

Cauliflower Pickles
The Fermentista
Sarah "The Fermentista" Pesout is new to Hollywood Farmers Market this season, selling a huge variety of small-batch fermented veggies. Each week she has something new, and this week she'll have the fresh-tasting and complex cauliflower pickle, as well as "cauli-leaf" sauerkraut - made with the rarely-used leaves of cauliflowers, and spiced with cumin, coriander and fennel seed. All the cauliflower comes from Deep Roots Farm, as does the cabbage in her more traditional sauerkraut. Stop by her booth (on the back row of the farmers market) to have a taste!

Asparagus Crepe
Suzette Creperie
Asparagus season is starting to come to an end, but Suzette's delicious asparagus crepe is still around for at least one more week. It's made with Gruyere cheese, sauce gribiche and a sunny-side up egg, not to mention fresh-harvested asparagus from Maryhill Orchards.
