FROM THE PRESIDENT AND CEO
Annual Meeting of the Members - A Don't Want to Miss Event
Michael Strech
The Annual Meeting of the Members Holiday Mixer is always the perfect way to wrap up one year and look ahead to the next one.  It brings together our current Board of Directors one more time and introduces our newest Board Members (Including the three new Builder Directors) to exactly what it means to take on a leadership role in our association and industry. For BIA members, in general this is a tremendous networking opportunity, putting you in the room with many of our industry's most prominent leaders.

In addition to introducing the newest board members, we will also be welcoming Mike Wyatt with K. Hovnanian Homes to our executive committee as the nominee for Secretary of the Board.  As 2018 ends, we will see Andy Davidson, with Anton Development, depart from the Board of Directors after nine years of service.  I personally, want to thank Andy for his tremendous leadership, and I encourage everyone thank him before the year comes to a close.

But, this night is not all about business.  This mixer also represents an opportunity to welcome the Holiday season with industry friends.  I have had the privilege of being at the BIA for six years now and I am proud to call hundreds of members my friends.  Many of those friendships started at this mixer, so I would like to strongly encourage members to join us on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 for a very special evening.

This year's event will be held at one of the area's premier venues, the Del Paso Country Club, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. You can find out more about the Annual Meeting of the Members Holiday Mixer here

I look forward to seeing you all next week!

NORTH STATE BUILDING INDUSTRY FOUNDATION
Out of School Youth Program Hosts Thanksgiving
Our Hillsdale Center hosted Thanksgiving lunch for 16 Out of School Youth participants on November 14. Attendees shared what they were thankful for and the afternoon ended with news that one of the young people had been hired by DH Construction and another had won a shopping trip to prepare for an interview with a solar company. Also, two participants who are currently escaping an extremely abusive home, one of them with her 3 year old daughter, received some gracious donations, including one from HomeAid Sacramento to help them get back on their feet.  We were able to povide much needed essentials, including a car seat for the toddler and warm clothes for all three.

A poem written for staff by an OSY participant was read during lunch which added extra warmth to the day's activities:

"You are my roof.
The way you protect is my proof.
You are my window, helping me see my soul.
You are my insulation.
You are my source warm sensation.
You are my electricity, making sure there is light all around me.
You are my hardwood helping every step like you should.
You are my favorite color paint, making me satisfied when others can't.
You rest my soul like memory foam.
You are my home."

Annual Health & Hygiene Drive
Our annual Health & Hygiene Drive is still underway to assist OSY members in meeting their basic needs while they are working with us to improve their circumstances.  To donate products or to make a monetary donation, please contact  Amanda.

Twenty blankets were donated to The Gathering Inn, where survivors of the fire disasters are also looking for help (some are living in hotels).
