There were significant challenges to complete restoration to the CPS customers who were without power this past weekend. Each had unique circumstances and different challenges that required additional work outside of just restoring power. In some cases, there were still trees and debris that needed to be removed before we could complete our work. CPS also identified repairs that needed to be made outside of our infrastructure work, such as specific electrician work, that needed to be completed.
On Thursday, more than 300,000 CPS customers were impacted by this storm either momentarily or with a sustained outage. Strong winds along with heavy rain, hail, and 3,400 lightning strikes brought down 350-plus trees and affected power to more than 57,000 CPS customers at peak. CPS crews worked 757 wire down orders through this restoration process and completed work without any safety incidents. We thank our community for their patience as the CPS team worked to restore power safely.
Contracting crews from Rio Grande City, Austin, and New Braunfels pitched in as part of the power restoration effort. Energy Advisors, Customer Engagement and Customer Response Units (CRU) worked tirelessly to provide one-on-one support for customers most affected by the outages.
City Departments and community members all joined in on the efforts to help neighbors in need. It was truly an all hands on deck effort.
We're extremely grateful for the response of our community to help those without power.
While the following Sunday’s storm was not as intense as Thursday's, approximately 20,000 CPS customers were left without power either momentarily or sustained outage. Crews were able to restore power to those customers in a quicker manner. In the event of additional storm-related outages, CPS Energy crews are ready to respond. For the latest information on current outages in the CPS Energy territory, please check their
outage map
. Outage safety tips are also included on the CPS Energy
website
.
CPS Energy’s restoration efforts from the impact of Thursday’s severe storm are completed. If customers are still experiencing an outage we encourage them to call us at (210) 353-HELP (4357).

Don't Fall Victim to Scams from Fake CPS Energy Callers
|
|
In 2018, CPS Energy saw an increase in the number of customers reporting to have been victimized by someone representing themselves as a CPS Energy employee to steal money from them. CPS Energy urges their customers to be on full alert for individuals posing as CPS Energy employees either by phone or in person. If customers receive calls from anyone claiming to be from the utility who threatens to cut off service if payment is not made immediately, they should hang up and call customer service directly at 210-353-2222. If someone approaches your home or business claiming to be CPS Energy, always ask for an employee ID. If you feel like you’re in immediate danger, you should call 911.
Payments can be made through
Manage My Account (MMA)
, a free online portal. MMA also provides CPS Energy customers with monthly energy use information, a view of their billing statement and payment arrangements options.

The Next Steps for the Dockless Vehicle Pilot Program
|
|
On May 30, 2019, City Council approved allowing currently permitted dockless vehicle operators to apply for permit extensions through September 30, 2019 so that dockless vehicle services continue uninterrupted until the conclusion of a Request for Proposals (RFP).
Companies that are currently permitted for more than 1,000 vehicles will be limited to 50 percent of their current permit total. The maximum number of permits that could be obtained by the seven operators is 8,850, which is a significant decrease from the current total of 16,100. No new companies will be able to obtain permits during this extension period.
Three operators will be selected through an RFP process to operate a total of 5,000 vehicles. The RFP will be issued on June 7, 2019 and will remain open for 45 days, with a due date of July 22, 2019. The process is expected to result in contracts for City Council consideration in early October 2019.
In addition, City Council voted to prohibit sidewalk riding effective June 30, 2019.
Timeline:
- Transportation Council Committee: April 29, 2019
- City Council B Session: May 15, 2019
- City Council A Session: May 30, 2019
- RFP Issued: June 7, 2019
- RFP Submission Deadline: July 22, 2019
- Contract Award: October 2019

The San Antonio Planning Department is asking for community input on
draft
goals and focus areas for the NE Loop 410 and I-35 Regional Center Plan. The purpose of the Regional Center Plan is to help guide long-range land use and community investment decisions as the City grows over the next twenty years. The Plan addresses the topics of what we build, how we get around, housing options, parks and open space, and where we “live, work, and play.”
