Join the community on Tuesday, July 30th from 5:30 - 7:00 PM for the opportunity to network with new and old industry colleagues, hear updates on the Canadian industry and learn more about RSPA and its Canadian Community. 

All resellers, vendors, software developers, manufacturers and service providers that bring retail solutions to the Canadian marketplace are welcome.

Linda Sudderth, North America Sales Manager at Epson America, Inc., had the opportunity to attend the invitation-only "Women in Retail Leadership Summit" in late April. The summit was comprised of presentations & panels about women and for women for two full days. The Presenters were C-Level executives from the retail industry and they shared stories of their career advancement. One session titled, "Lessons Learned on My Journey from Secretary to the C-Suite", presented by the former CEO of Victoria's Secret, was awe-inspiring. "Her trek from Secretary to CEO was nothing short of amazing, " said Linda. Each story told by a female executive shared the trials and tribulations endured, both personal and professional, that led to their success at the C-Level. Linda and Aileen Maldonado, an Epson Product Manager, each moderated a Solution-Circle, "Keeping up with new Tech", for an hour during lunch.

Lively discussions ensued surrounding Mobile Tablets, Mobile Technologies, Projection Technology & Security. The experience, take-away lessons learned, and the networking opportunities available with these successful women were well aligned with the RSPA W2W committee's charter of uniting, lifting and empowering women in technology. It was definitely a worthwhile event that every woman in our industry should attend given the opportunity.

Security Tip from Nathan Sweaney

The Mean Time To Identify (MTTI) a security breach is 197 days, according to a 2018 study by IBM. That's six months, with another 2 months on average to fully contain the breach. Attacks are going to happen, and every organization will be hit eventually. But with a little effort, you can drastically reduce the time needed to detect them. Explore the logging and alerting functionality of the tools you use and make sure that when bad things start happening, you get notified as soon as possible.

Dispatching Technicians From Home

In what hopefully is a decision that becomes a trend, the Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled that state law does not require employers to pay employees for routine commute time driving company-provided vehicles between the employees' homes and assigned job sites. In the majority of states, the rule is the employee's normal commute time from home to a place of work is deducted from the time taken from home to the first job site to determine when compensation begins.
