The Pastor's Notes
from the desk of Walter Cantwell

Last night at our Growth Group, we had an interesting discussion about our relationship with the Bible as children. The answers from our group seemed to capture America's relationship with God's word. There was the family who never attended church, and the Bible collected dust. Another family kept the Bible on the bookshelf because the Priest was perceived to be the sole interpreter. Other families described Bibles lying around the house, but they were rarely opened. And a couple of the members of our group mentioned reading Scripture with their family after dinner almost every evening.

How would those closest to you describe your relationship with the Bible? Are your Bibles collecting dust around the house? Do you occasionally open the Holy Scriptures whenever you need a quick spiritual fix? Or are your Bibles consistently open so that you are being filled, shaped, and transformed by the inspiring word of God?

The Bible, for me, is my guide and teacher. It leads me closer to the heart of God while also helping me to view the world from Jesus' perspective. I am honored to reflect on the Scriptures with you Sunday after Sunday.

This coming Sunday, Father's Day, I will be preaching in The Sanctuary. I was originally scheduled to preach in The Harbor, but Connie Stinson is not feeling well. Therefore, I am going to preach in The Sanctuary. And Carter Robinson, our newest Pastoral Cabinet member, will be preaching in The Harbor. Carter, his wife, Kristin, and their young son, Micah, usually attend The Harbor. So, I asked him to "pinch-hit" in The Harbor this week, and he was willing.

Father's Day will be very special to me this year. Christiana is pregnant, and she is due in mid-December. All of this is new to us, and we are experiencing the emotions of becoming first-time parents. I ask you please, please, please do not touch her belly. It makes her feel very uncomfortable and nauseous. She has had a difficult first fourteen weeks and is continuing to work through the sickness.

We actually have several staff members, future and present, whose wives are also pregnant. I kindly ask for you to respect their space by not touching their bellies without permission. The consensus is that it is overwhelming to be pregnant, have people surround you, and provide unsolicited advice. But I wanted to share with you because we are beyond excited, feel extremely blessed, and would appreciate your prayers for our growing family.

So, I have been thinking a lot today. What legacy will I leave? When the church doors are closed and I am at home, will my Bible be opened? Our children and loved ones are watching.

Let's keep in the Word,

ThankThank You!
I would like to extend a HUGE thank you to everyone who signed up to volunteer for Mobile Meals last Sunday and throughout this week. We have a total of 60 new people willing to help!

Having said this I would like you all to know I am making calls as quickly as I can to everyone, so please be patient, I will call you. To all of my tried and true volunteers you may be on "vacation" for awhile so our new folks have a chance to be blessed with this ministry. There are no words to express my gratitude to Rev. Alexander who gave me the opportunity to speak on his last day and had the idea to do this at one big service rather than four individually. Once again our Belin church family has answered the call. God Bless you all.

Sincerely,
Kim Provenza
