WORD for the Week for June 16, 2019
Trinity Sunday
A nine-week worship series: Green Faith
Week 8
Green Faith: Mobilizing God's People to Save the Earth

This spring and summer, you are invited to confront global climate change from a faith perspective during our 9-week series focusing on Green Faith.

Using the book  Green Faith: Mobilizing God's People to Save the Earth  by Fletcher Harper as our guide, the Hennepin community will explore how "God is calling us to live differently" in the age of global climate change. We will explore how we can and must take action to protect Creation, reconnect to nature-based spirituality, and commit more fully to environmental justice.

Every Sunday, you will hear Green Faith-themed sermons on topics like "Many Faiths, One Earth," "The Pale Blue Dot," and "Our Kairos Moment." Throughout the series, we're hosting events and programs to explore Green Faith through art, film, music, food, discussion, and more.

Spend the season deepening your Green Faith at Hennepin.

COME AND WORSHIP
Sabbath Beginnings – Sacred Journey – Traditional Worship
WORD for Sabbath Beginnings 8am
Scripture Text: Romans 8:18-25 (NRSV)

Worship Leader: Rev. Dwight Haberman

Holy Communion: The New Green Revolution-Faiths in action for the Earth. “There is a religious revolution underway. It is taking place on every continent, within every faith tradition. It is changing the way people of faith experience God, and what it means to live a moral life. It is changing the ways in which people worship and pray, travel, and use resources like energy and water. It is adding a new dimension to the policy advocacy that faith communities have done for decades. And it is drawing a small but growing number of people of faith into various forms of public witness and nonviolent civil disobedience. The religious environmental movement is ready for prime time.” (from the book)

ARE WE, ARE YOU READY?
WORD for Sacred Journey 8:30am
Scripture Text:   Acts 2:40-47 (NRSV)

The Story:   “ Wearing Red for the Green Revolution” – David Focht

Reflection:   This week in Sacred Journey, Storyteller extraordinaire David Focht shares the spiritual reasons for his love of the color of Pentecost and gives us some insight into   why red is the color of green faith!  We continue sharing the joy of 25 years of community and prepare to celebrate the ordination of Sacred Journey friend, Rev. Stephanie Escher. Bring a friend or neighbor to worship (and eat more cake!) this week. All are welcome to join the journey!
WORD for Traditional Worship 10am
Scripture Text: Romans 8:15-25 (NRSV)

Preaching: Rev. Judy Zabel

Green Faith: A New Green Revolution

Reflection: This weekend, we continue our Green Faith series. Every day we see and hear news about the effects of global warming. It can be downright alarming. And it should be. But we can get so discouraged and overwhelmed that we give up. But God has a better way. Romans 8 reminds us that there is hope.  Let's integrate, educate and activate in a way that gives us and our neighbors hope!
