June 2019

May was a busy month for the CTE as we hosted the Teaching and Learning Symposium, an Instructional Skills Workshop, and a three-day Course (Re)Design Workshop. Many thanks to those participating who helped make these events, and our programming throughout the year, a success. Whether you are planning holidays or teaching throughout the summer, we hope that you'll find some inspiration in our summer reading list, and a look back at some of our events.

Educated, A Memoir by Tara Westover
One of my best reads of 2019. This memoir describes Tara Westover's journey from survivalist Morman family in rural Idaho with no formal education to a PhD from Cambridge. This book reminds me the many challenges and presumptions of the education system through the lens of a novice learner.

It was a chance to experience place-based practices and models in action, to reflect on applications to our own teaching practices and to connect with other faculty members.
