Indiana Department of Education's Accelerated Learning Roadmap |
|
The opportunity to curb learning loss due to COVID-19 is a top focus for families, schools, and community organizations. Schools across Indiana are developing accelerated learning plans to ensure students receive the building blocks necessary for success as they cross the finish line of one grade level and transition to the next.
Amidst the challenges presented by the pandemic, immense opportunity exists as well. The IDOE's new Accelerated Learning Plan website offers guidance to support families, schools, and communities as they seek to strategically employ the unprecedented relief funds now available and maximize their return on investment. This includes focusing on:
- How schools can develop an ecosystem of support within their community -- by partnering with institutions of higher education as well as business and industry -- to meet the needs of the whole child.
- How schools can address educational inequities that have been exacerbated by the pandemic to ensure equitable access for all moving forward.

The IDOE invites community partners to join this webinar, in which IDOE staff will discuss the Accelerated Learning Plan. IDOE staff will share researching models for community organizations, ways to evaluate student performance, funding and collaboration opportunities, and considerations for nutrition and transportation. Registration is not required and webinars will be recorded for those unable to attend live.
The Indiana Department of Education is requesting that schools and organizations complete this form to indicate specific areas in which your organization needs additional support and guidance as you develop your own accelerated learning plans.

Lilly Endowment Awards More than $93M to Address Poverty in Indianapolis
The Lilly Endowment Inc. has approved $93.6 million in new grants to help Indianapolis residents living in or near poverty. The grants, which range from $180,000 to more than $8 million each, will be awarded to 28 Indianapolis-based organizations to fund new programs aimed at financial security or expand existing programs that address poverty-related challenges.

This is the third in a three-part series of webinars presented by the National Girls Collaborative. Exposure to diverse STEM role models can broaden girls’ perceptions of STEM careers and dispel stereotypes about who does STEM. Presenters will provide an overview of STEM role models, benefits of incorporating role models into STEM programs for girls, and resources and strategies for identifying and engaging role models. In preparation for the webinar, participants are encouraged to think about how they currently use (or do not use) role models in their network or program, and identify challenges to incorporating STEM role models.

The state of Indiana recently rolled out its Essential to Recovery plan, which outlines how it will use COVID-19 relief funding to enable programs like yours to regain sustainability, deliver support to families, and build industry strength for the future. IAN has served as a partner in the development of the state's plan and will take a lead role in supporting the rollout of specific initiatives. Click the link above to watch the webinar. The 21st Century Community Learning Center Program is a federally-funded program (Title IV, part B) awarded to local education agencies, as well as public and private organizations, to provide youth a safe environment during non-school hours. This program supports the creation of community learning centers that provide academic enrichment and life skills opportunities during non-school hours for youth, particularly youth who attend high-proverty and low-performing schools. The program helps youth meet state and local student standards in core academic subjects; offers youth a broad array of enrichment activities that help their social, emotional, and behavioral development; and offers literacy and other educational services to the families of participating youth.
