Discovery Weekend 2019
Registration for Discovery Weekend is now open! Discovery is a jam-packed, three-day weekend of messages, worship, small group discussions, and activities designed to jump start the school year and help our students continue to make their faith their own. It is designed for high schoolers to develop leadership skills and pour into middle schoolers by leading D-Groups, sharing in messages, and in worship. Discovery is the most exciting, spirit filled, and fun weekend your student will attend all year! So come be a part of this amazing weekend August 2-4! For more information, or if you would like to volunteer, contact Alice Bell Baker ([email protected] / 769-0137). Deadline to register is June 18.

Reunited and It Feels So Good
Last summer the construction gave us the opportunity to combine some Sunday services. We had such good feedback that this year we have decided to worship together once again. Throughout the month of July the 8:30 and 11:00 traditional services will be be reuniting with the services in Tyson Hall. The 9:45 service will still remain in the Sanctuary. To kick off this move we will be hosting our annual Independence Day concert on July 7 as we bring back Three On A String to perform in the 8:30 and 11:00 am services.

Here is the breakdown of how each week's worship style:
  • July 7 - Three on a String
  • July 14 - Traditional
  • July 21 - Contemporary
  • July 28 - Blended
On August 4, everything should be back to the original worship spaces, with the Discovery Weekend service in the Sanctuary at 9:45 am. So, join everybody for worship during the rest of summer!
Three On A String Sunday
The popular Birmingham-based ensemble Three on a String is celebrating their 48th anniversary with lively back to back performances here at Vestavia Methodist. Each service will feature the delightful mix of folk, jazz, bluegrass, gospel, and country music with a generous helping of humor for which the group is so well known.

Join us in worship on Sunday, July 7, as Three-On-A-String leads us at both the 8:30 and 11:00 am services in our brand-new Tyson Hall. You won't want to miss this exciting Sunday in the life of our church.
Boomers and Beyond Sock Hop
Find your poodle skirt or some Brylcreem and come have a great evening of dancing, food ,and movie clips as we go back in time to the fabulous 1950's. The Sock Hop will be July 18, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm, in the Fellowship Hall. The cost is $10/person, which will include your meal of hot dogs, hamburgers, fries, and make your own sundae bar. You can invite your friends and we won't be checking IDs at the door. Everyone will need to make a reservation by July 8. For more information contact Jim Frazier ([email protected] / 769-0126).
Mission Minutes
Many of our members are still amazed when they discover all the mission efforts and organizations that we sponsor or support. Look for our new "Mission Minutes" in the Notes over the next year where we will highlight a mission partner/project every couple of weeks. Maybe you will even find a new way to get plugged in at VHUMC. During this "minute" we will also mention any needs that our partners might have that Sunday School classes or individuals could help with as they feel called.

This is great way to learn more about what VHUMC is doing to continue being the hands and feet of Christ and where God is calling us to continue to serve both locally and around the world.
VHUMC Marriage Night
Join thousands of couples in churches around the country on Friday, August 16, for a one-night marriage enrichment experience. Come enjoy a night to laugh and learn with your spouse/significant other as you hear from marriage experts and discover how to honor God in your marriage. The cost is $20 per couple and includes dinner. Childcare available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please contact Suzanne Scott-Trammell with any questions ([email protected] or 250-769-0136).

Hats for Sale to Support Missions
Looking for that perfect cap for the summer? Well, look no further. The mission's office has the best looking cap around for sale. A portion of the proceeds will help support Rise Against Hunger 2020. This cap will be perfect for that golf game, mission trip, hiking adventure, or beach escape. If you are interested in supporting a good cause and getting a great hat at the same time, then contact Rachael Hayes ([email protected] / 769-0143). Don't wait, these will not last long.
Senior Sunday 2019 Recognition
On Sunday, May 19, our graduating seniors came together to be honored and celebrated by their families and friends in the 11:00 traditional service in the Sanctuary. These students served as leaders in the service by delivering prayers, reading scripture, and bringing the morning messages. Bill Brunson closed this special service with a blessing of the senior class and a prayer for their futures.

We are happy to announce this year's winners of the Mel Sparkman Scholarship, Nathan Watson and Madison Murrell. This award recognizes students with passionate commitments to community service, their church family, and their own faith journeys throughout their years with Thrive Student Ministry.

We are so proud of all of our seniors, and we are so excited to see where God leads each of them in college and beyond. Thank you to the junior parents who helped sponsor the beautiful reception in honor of our seniors.
The Most Amazing Man Alive
There is truly only one way he can be described. He is the most amazing man alive. He is... your father. This humorous illustration is a great way to celebrate Father's Day.
