WATER. REST. SHADE. Keep Workers Safe in the Heat
OSHA’s Heat Illness Prevention Campaign , launched in 2011, educates employers and workers on the dangers of working in the heat. Through training sessions, outreach events, informational sessions, publications, social media messaging and media appearances, millions of workers and employers have learned how to protect workers from heat.

OSHA'S safety message comes down to three words: WATER. REST. SHADE.
OSHA's Occupational Exposure to Heat page explains what employers can do to keep workers safe and what workers need to know - including factors for heat illness, adapting to working in indoor and outdoor heat, protecting workers, recognizing symptoms and first aid training. OSHA is promoting a Trench Safety Stand Down sponsored by the National Utility Contractors Association (NUCA) in support of its National Emphasis Program on Trenching and Excavation . The Trench Safety Stand Down, which takes place the week of June 17-21, 2019, encourages employers to talk to their workers about trenching and excavation hazards to reinforce the use of protective systems to eliminate hazards. Employers Must Protect Temporary Workers

Temporary workers are those supplied to a host employer and paid by a staffing agency, whether or not the job is actually temporary. Whether temporary or permanent, all workers always have a right to a safe and healthy workplace. The staffing agency and the staffing agency’s client (the host employer) are joint employers of temporary workers, and both are responsible for providing and maintaining a safe work environment for those workers.

Each employer should consider the hazards it is in a position to prevent and correct, and in a position to comply with OSHA standards. For example, staffing agencies might provide general safety and health training, and host employers provide specific training tailored to the particular workplace equipment and hazards. The key is communication between the agency and the host employer to ensure that the necessary protections are provided.

OSHA Short Courses Offer Safety Fundamentals

OSHA offers short courses ranging from 4-8 hours in length to provide the fundamentals of safety on a variety of topics. Shorter courses give employers and workers an affordable and practical opportunity to learn key elements of occupational safety and health on specific subject matter that is relevant to their individual workplaces.

Gain the basic skills necessary to conduct an effective workplace accident investigation. Register

Learn to identify and fulfill your responsibilities for posting certain records, maintaining records of illnesses and injuries, and reporting specific cases to OSHA.  Register

Learn the four core elements of an effective safety and health program with strategies & techniques that are critical to each element’s proper management. Register

Learn reasons and requirements for emergency action and fire prevention plans; elements of a good evacuation plan and OSHA requirements; and features of design and maintenance of good exit routes. Register 
Overview of Upcoming Courses
The 40-Hour HAZWOPER (5-day) course is designed to ensure awareness and promote safety among employees who may be exposed to chemical hazards in their workplace. The objective is to ensure that employees operate in the safest possible manner in situations where contact with potentially hazardous materials is likely. The course provides students with written and hands-on instruction in hazardous waste operations and emergency response.
This 4-day course is designed for those who are interested in teaching OSHA's 10-hour and 30-hour General Industry safety and health outreach classes to employees and other interested groups. Special emphasis is placed on those topics that are required in the 10-hour and 30-hour classes as well as on those that are the most hazardous in General Industry. Participants learn effective instructional approaches, adult learning principles and training techniques.
Prerequisites : OSHA 511-OSHA Standards for General Industry within the last 7 years AND 5 years of General Industry safety experience.
This 3-day course covers the requirements for the safe construction and use of scaffolding guided by OSHA's construction scaffold standard. Topics include hazards associated with scaffold design, assembly, disassembly and use; types of scaffolds; determining scaffold capacity; employee qualifications and training; and maintenance, repair and inspection requirements. Students will learn to identify the types of scaffolds and components; determine safe assembly, use and disassembly; and recognize common violations of OSHA standards.
This 4-day course covers Federal OSHA policies, procedures, and standards, construction safety and health principles and the scope and application of OSHA construction standards, and is the prerequisite to OSHA 500-Trainer Course for the Construction Industry . Special emphasis is placed on those areas that are the most hazardous, using OSHA standards as a guide.
