Monarch Butterflies Habitat
We love nature! A new Monarch Butterfly Habitat is coming to Armacost Park. The project will provide a perfect pit stop for migratory pollinators and birds during migration. The habitat is a project of The Borough of Avalon, intended to help rebound the U.S. east coast population of pollinators including the Monarch butterfly. The project designed by Taylor Design Group, Inc. will include plantings to attract the pollinators, vital to sustainability of the environment and educate us all about our ecosystem.

AVALON INTRODUCES COUNTY'S LOWEST TAX RATE
Avalon Borough Council announced a 2.7 cent tax rate reduction included in the 2018 municipal budget. The new rate is being cut to .199 cents. With the municipal library levy deducted from the tax rate, Avalon is lower than all 2017 rates in Cape May County. Avalon Mayor Martin Pagliughi says smart responsible budget management, debt management, and a recent reassessment contribute to the lower rate at the same time funding community projects to enhance the quality of life in Avalon.

Tech for Avalon
Verizon is requesting Avalon consider the installation DAS (distributed antenna systems) technology to help wireless carriers meet the growing demand for data capacity. It's technical ... the technology will give nodes in areas of wireless data usage to be more responsive in a specific area giving coverage were the wireless signal is not as robust. The nodes can meet the data demand and free up the larger antennas (those mounted on the water tower) for wider area coverage. The challenge for the Borough is to consider is the placement and height of the antennas, a sensitive issue for homeowners. Each node is dedicated by carrier so each carrier would need a separate node. The borough wants to limit the node placement to existing structures and establish a method for the carriers to petition the borough for placement on new structures. [Cape May County Herald]

Caring Community
The Borough of Avalon donated 200 metal folding chairs from Community Hall to the International Christian Development Mission. The mission provides relief efforts in Haiti. The chairs will be used inside the worship room in Bayonnais Haiti. The efforts of Will Haryslak, ICDM Family Homes Director, creates awareness for people in need. Haryslak said. "Some neighborhoods in Haiti truly rely exclusively on the generosity of surplus or unwanted items, and the selfless volunteerism of individuals across the globe to provide even basic necessities and a reasonable quality of life. Chairs that would have wound up being discarded will now assist families in this building for many years to come". [Cape May County Herald]

Avalon and Stone Harbor Market Trends
Despite the cold and snowy weather last week, spring is coming, one month to go. Winter weather did not stop our sales activity. Our sales activity picked up once just after Super Bowl - happens every year like clockwork!

Unfortunately while the buyers are here the lack of inventory is holding back our sales trend. In the first two months of 2017 there were 87 properties placed under agreement; 33 in January, 54 in February; 63 in Avalon and 24 in Stone Harbor. This year for January/February we have placed under agreement 53 properties, a 39% decrease; 33 in Avalon a 48% decrease and 22 in Stone Harbor, an 8% decrease.READ MORE HERE
