The F35s Will Make Homes Unlivable

It's now known that if the F35s come to Vermont that 2,640 homes will be affected by noise at or above 65 decibels-- that's more than the 976 outlined on sound maps for 2015.

According to an article published in April by Seven Days , "The areas where residents will be exposed to average noise levels of more than 65 decibels will expand to the north and south, into Winooski and Williston, and tighten in the east and west, in South Burlington. The federal government considers areas with an average of more than 65 decibels 'unsuitable for residential use.'" You can plug in your address into this map to see if your home is in the noise zone.

We already got a taste of what life with F35s will be like when they made an unexpected pit stop at the airport on May 31. Is this the life that Vermonters deserve?

From the Blog: Where were you for the Dandelion Run?

-Netdahe Stoddard, PJC Facilitator

I was full of positive energy and wearing a big smile as I lined up to race the 2019 Dandelion Run half marathon in Derby on May 18th. The weather was perfect for running and I was happy to be having a little stay-cation and spending my money locally in the NEK. Then I looked to my left and saw a fellow runner with a hatefully racist, violent white supremacist tattoo -- a personal billboard advocating violence against people of color in my community, in my family, and against me through association. My stomach sank and I felt strong feelings of sadness and rage. I kept my cool and informed the race director and every volunteer I saw along the route. I let them know that I was offended, that I felt personally threatened and that I expected that he would be made to leave. I was told that this would happen.

This particular race is a fundraiser for work to end interpersonal violence in our community. Yet, one of the participants was advocating violence directly and communicating support for an ideology that fuels shootings and bombings in Synagogues, Mosques, Churches, schools and other public places in our country and others.
Palestinian House of Friendship

Mohammed Sawalha of Nablus, West Bank, Palestine, is returning to Montpelier for a talk and discussion on Saturday, June 15,  7-9pm at the Unitarian Church of Montpelier.

Mohammed is the founder and director of  the Palestinian House of Friendship (PHF), which is doing amazing work, and relies on international support.  Mohammed is a long time activist for human rights for the Palestinians, a professor, and a strong advocate of leadership roles for women and girls. He'll show photos of the West Bank and PHF activities.

Palestinian civil society has no funds for extras, as life is about finding water, food, employment and basic survival.  The U.S. has reduced its funding to UNHCR which provides services (schools, food etc.) to Palestinians in refugee camps, causing even more hardship. Mohammed will provide insight into the recent efforts of the Trump Administration to bring peace between Israel and the Palestinians.

Donations to PHF will be welcomed, and you can donate online as well.

Sign the petition: Demand presidential candidates oppose the first use of nuclear weapons

At any minute, the president of the United States can start a nuclear war with sole authority. There is no requirement for outside approval or a second opinion. Donald Trump's reckless behavior is shining a light on just how dangerous this situation is. But no president should have unchecked authority to destroy the world.

Right now, dozens of candidates are running to be our next commander-in-chief. We need to get them on the record now to support the No First Use of nuclear weapons. The United States should never start a nuclear war!
