Northwestern Cutting Back on Staff After Years of Adding
Northwestern Law's new dean, Kimberly Yuracko, has put an end to the law school's unprecedented increase in faculty hiring. In a message to staff, she said the school was in a "challenging financial position." To make ends meet, the law school is reducing clinical, and lecture positions by eliminating vacant jobs and not renewing some teaching contracts. Since 2000, the school had added nearly 200 faculty.  Read more.    

Crafting a winning personal statement
For whatever reason, writing the personal statement often seems like the most daunting step in the law school application process. It can be intimidating to stare at a blank piece of paper that eventually has to tell your story in an authentic and compelling way. However, there here are a number of things you can do to make sure that you present the best possible version of yourself to the admissions committee.

New York Legal Education Opportunity Program
The New York Legal Education Opportunity Program (LEO) helps students from minority, low income, or economically disadvantaged backgrounds to succeed in law school. It is open to New York State residents who plan to attend law school in New York State. It is a 6-week program that consists of lectures, discussions, and skill building exercises for students who will enter law school in August 2019. It is run by the New York State Judicial Institute, and takes place at the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University in White Plains, New York. Those accepted receive free housing and food in addition to the cost of the program. Admission is competitive, and the application deadline is March 22, 2019. Attached is a brochure that provides further information.
