It's almost Labor Day, and our thoughts are turning to the season ahead -- one of our favorite times of year in New England -- when we can at last put the heat and torpor of summer behind us. What better time, then, to seize the opportunity and grow our space a little? You may have seen us carrying boxes and display tables down the sidewalk. You may have wondered: What are they up to? Well, we are thrilled to announce our first ever pop-up store! The Wellesley Books Annex is now open, just two doors down from our main store. Come visit us, and say goodbye to summer with great deals on choice gifts that just never quite had their day in the sun. Annex hours are Monday-Saturday 11-4 -- we can't wait to see you!

Gilty immigrated from Ghana, grew up in Alabama and is working on a PhD in neuroscience at Stanford, experimenting with mice. She has always felt she “wasn’t cool enough, white enough” and tries to use her brilliance as something to prove. She tells her raw and powerful story of racism, addiction, mental illness, and especially faith and prayer. All while she tries hard to mend her complicated relationship with her mother. This second novel from the author of the award winning novel, Homegoing, is compelling and so, so beautifully written.

One of the few confirmed facts about William Shakespeare’s personal life is that his only son, Hamnet, died at age 11. Not long afterwards, his masterpiece Hamlet debuted on the London stage. Curl up with this splendid reimagining of what life in Stratford might have been like for young William and his unconventional wife Anne as the allure of the city drew the aspiring playwright increasingly away from his beloved family.

Cantabrigians Graham and Annie have built a relationship around people, books and photography. Gregarious Graham is the proprietor of a little indie bookshop and Annie is a more reserved, floundering photographer. Their story unravels and reveals its true self when Graham suddenly passes. Within these pages Miller explores, exposes and dissects the heart of a committed relationship. She shows the transformative power of memory and the triumph of love over death itself. The characters are rich and complicated. The scenery is painted so clearly you feel as if you’re walking on the ice-covered sidewalk, smelling the beautiful bouquet of flowers or just opening the door into your favorite bookstore. A great read!

When an ill-conceived bank robbery goes horribly wrong, a real estate open house turns into a farcical hostage situation. The determined realtor, the potential buyers, the inept perpetrator and the squabbling police officers are all delightful, if reluctant, participants in this clever, entertaining and poignant escapade.

This companion novel to When Dimple Met Rishi and There’s Something About Sweetie, follows Pinky Kumar, a proud Social Justice Warrior who loves making her parents cringe by dating ‘delinquents’, and Samir Jha who lives every day according to his regimented lists. 10 Things is what happens when you combine rigid rules with chaotic spontaneity, possums with a fear of wild animals, and enemies-to-lovers with fake dating set to the background of saving a butterfly habitat. Menon subverts expectations at every turn and will have you fall in love over and over, break your heart when you least expect it, and piece it back together as softly as butterfly wings. Unbelievably compassionate towards young people figuring out their identities and the parents trying to guide them, this comedy of errors will have you cracking up, tearing up, and yelling at the characters in horror and delight.

Dog of the Week: Meet Pippa!
|
Mom and daughter-duo, Kate and Cassie brought in their 3 year old rescue pup, Pippa who came to Massachusetts from Mississippi. A DNA test revealed that she is at least 50% dachshund but also has Lab and German Shepherd somewhere in her as well, especially in her bark. Her favorite pastime includes catching Frisbees and jumping up to high places. We can't blame you, Pippa, there's so many interesting things to see up high!
