A Message From The Superintendent

Happy Friday Falcon Families,

As we prepare for the end of the school year, I wanted to share with you some happenings around the district. Please keep reading all the way to the bottom for information about registration, masks, 21-22 school year, a message from the Governing Board, and a final message about equity for all students.

Terrific Kids - Yesterday was a busy day. The Kiwanis’s Club gives away bikes to students every year. We are so appreciative of the wonderful things they do for our students and community. This year they gave away bikes at Fountain Hills Middle School and McDowell Mountain Elementary to four Terrific Kids. Thank you Kiwanis’s for the great bikes and the smiling faces.
Signing Day - Thursday morning at FHHS Falcon’s Nest, we held a signing day event for the student athletes attending college on an athletic scholarship. Student athletes and their families as well as staff participated in a fun interview, breakfast, and celebration of the students success. We are so proud of all of our student athletes who have earned scholarships to colleges and universities. CONGRATULATIONS AND BEST OF LUCK!! Thank you for the great work Mr. Dudley and Mr. Alexander.
Online Registration - It has come to our attention that the online registration process for existing students is not clear to some of our families. In an effort to prepare for next school year and assign your child a teacher or schedule them into classes, we have implemented the online forms that will take place of the packet handed out at back to school that includes forms such as the pink health form and the emergency card. This process is completely separate from a new student enrollment as well as your child choosing his/her classes. We understand that this is new and we appreciate our families being flexible as we learn from the process, but please know this will be the standard moving forward as we work to eliminate paper and maximize technology. Should you have any challenges, our office staff is always available to assist you anytime during the school day. It is critical that this process be completed as soon as possible, so we appreciate you taking the time to complete it.
Mask Update – After much conversation with staff, governing board, and community members, we are going to continue to wear masks and implement our mitigation strategies until the last day of school. While we know and understand that some of you may not agree, just in the past several weeks the middle school was labeled an outbreak site with over 50 students out for quarantine and the high school had new cases with 15 students out on quarantine. Based on information and guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, mask requirements will remain in place for the health and safety of our students, staff, families, and community.

Have a wonderful weekend in the the beautiful Arizona sun.

A Message From The
FHUSD Governing Board

Dear Falcon Families, Staff, and Community,

We wanted to share an excerpt from the Arizona School Boards Association statement that went out earlier this week. We hope you take a moment to read this and reflect on the community’s engagement with us.

School Board members are unpaid elected officials who live in the same community as the residents they serve. Too often this year, they have been treated as faceless bureaucrats who are optimal targets to release rage and frustration over the circumstances of the pandemic. The CDC continues to recommend “universal and correct use of masks” as a key prevention strategy, and any discussion about relaxing or altering that policy is itself a deference to community preferences.

This pandemic has created an environment where some members of the community feel that threatening public officials who do not agree with their views on managing it is permissible. It is not. School board members should never feel that they are placing themselves or their families at risk by servicing their communities.

Respectfully,
FHUSD Governing Board

2021-2022 School Year - It is the plan of FHUSD to start school next year with all the fun events and activities. FHUSD fully plans on the normal start to the school year with students and families enjoying being on campus without restrictions. Barring any additional mandates or orders from the Governor or State/Federal Government, school will start in the fall as normal.
FHUSD Equity - Governing Board Policy JICK, outlines the districts belief that EVERY student has the right to be educated in a positive, safe, caring, and respectful learning environment.  The Board further believes a school environment inclusive of these traits maximizes student achievement, fosters student personal growth, and helps students build a sense of community that promotes positive participation as members of society that values positive interpersonal relationships, mutual respect, and appropriate conflict resolution. FHUSD will continue to foster in students the acceptance of all people and establish guidelines that provide equity in education to all students, staff, and families through respect. Not only does our policy prevent us from ignoring discrimination based on race, color, national origin, sex, disability or age, we follow national guidelines and policies. FHUSD will continue to focus on equity for all students and staff. We are required to address, immediately, instances of discrimination, bullying, harassment, and intimidation and follow up with appropriate steps to remediate the situation. We take this very seriously. In the coming months, you’ll hear more about our efforts to ensure equity for all students and staff.
