The Muskegon Millage Minute is your source for regular updates on programs and services funded by the Muskegon County Senior Millage, which was approved by county voters in August of 2016.

Members of the Muskegon County Senior Activities Committee (MCSAC) make recommendations for programs and services to the full board of commissioners. MCSAC members are: Commissioners Marcia Hovey-Wright, Ken Mahoney, and Rillastine Wilkins; Sharon Ackerman, Judy Kell, Nancy McCarthy, Janet Perreault, Greg Scott, and Pat Shafer.

Senior Resources of West Michigan, the area agency on aging for Muskegon, Oceana and Ottawa counties, is the administrator of the funds, and produces this monthly newsletter update. Proposals sought for senior medical transportation

Senior Resources of West Michigan, the administrator of the Muskegon County Senior Millage, is seeking proposals to provide medical transportation to the aging through the senior millage. Funding is available to organizations which provide services to persons 60 years of age and older within the service area of Muskegon County. Interested parties may obtain specifics to submit a letter of intent, service and activity standards at:  www.seniorresourceswmi.org/muskegon-county-senior-millage .

Letters of intent are due no later than June 24, 2019 by 3 p.m.

Applying organizations must have the ability and willingness to provide monthly demographic reports, including, but not limited to Muskegon County zip code and township codes, and monthly financial status reports for millage-funded services.

Local resident pleased with millage-funded services

Judy Kell, HUB manager of Pathways to Better Health of the Lakeshore through the Health Project, shared a success story recently:

"I just got off the phone with Helen Jones. She is a senior served through the CHW (Community Health Worker) Pathways Senior Millage program. She wanted to thank us and in particular, thank her CHW, DeOndra Pentecost for all of her efforts.

"We assisted Ms. Jones with a variety of programs including pharmacy, the CAPABLE Program (shower chair, grab bars, etc.), eyeglasses and education about her medical conditions. She wanted to let me know that it was hard for her to ask for help but that she was glad that she did ask for it. She also wanted to say, 'don't end this program for seniors.' I explained that this was paid for by her tax dollars through the senior millage. 

Ms. Jones was very impressed with DeOndra's care and concern and I want to thank DeOndra for her efforts on behalf of Ms. Jones. I also want to thank the Senior Millage for allowing the Health Project to provide this kind of service to our seniors and for Senior Resources as the fiduciary for the funds."
Millage services reports coming quarterly
Millage service reports will be available quarterly. The next report on service statistics will be listed in August, reflecting the first three quarters of the current fiscal year (Oct. 1, 2018 - June 30, 2019).

Millage Informational Cards available
Informational cards are available (pictured, left) that list various ways to find information about the senior millage - the website, Google calendar, and 2-1-1. The reverse of the card shows the number of people served in Muskegon County during the prior fiscal year.To get copies of the card to distribute, please email Lisa Tyler at ltyler@seniorresourceswmi.org.
