Principal's Newsletter / Sept. 30, 2018
Principal's Message
Our school community is one that is very close. Fullerton is a great town and it is amazing how connected we all are. Our school community was faced with the passing of one of our own last week. Katie Monson, Class of 2016. Katie embodied what it means to be an FUHS Indian for Life. She not only was the model student during her time at FUHS, participating in sports and ASB while maintaining high academic standards but even after she graduated and even after her illness set in, she continued to care for her school community. Her legacy will live on in many ways here at Fullerton, but especially through her foundation. Our hearts and prayers are with the Monson family, FUHS is with you.
Senior Corner Spruced Up!
Our Senior Corner has some shade! It was a long wait but definitely worth it! With the financial support of our amazing PTSA, our ASB, and our site funds, we were able to make it happen! Partnerships like this are always appreciated!
2018 FUHS Wall of Fame Inductees Announced!
Every year a new class of FUHS Wall of Fame Alumni are chosen. This year our leadership group reviewed the many nominations of FUHS Alumni that have gone on to do amazing things, not only for our school community but many times have done amazing things for our country! This year there are three members of the FUHS Class of 2018 Wall of Fame, they are:

Floyd Robert Ross, Class of 1946 - Professional Baseball Player, Teacher, Coach, Principal, Administrator
Ann Johnson, Class of 1958 - Stunt Woman, Actress, Activist
Katie Monson, Class of 2016 - Founder of KM (Kindness Matters) Legacy Foundation

Our three inductees will be honored at a special dinner prior to our Homecoming game on Friday, Oct. 5th and will be part of our pre-game show as well. Their plaques, which include their picture will be hung in our Administration Offices that evening. Congratulations to all!
It's Homecoming Week!!
This week we will be celebrating Homecoming! The football game is this Friday, Oct. 5th at 7pm vs. Sonora High School. We are expecting big crowds as we also celebrate our Wall of Fame Inductees and welcome all alumni and guests to celebrate our 125th! Last week we presented our Homecoming court! Good Luck to all!
The Pleiades
For those that didn't know...our school newspaper is all online!! Yes, we have gone digital! This change happened a few years ago and for our students it has been a great change. There are constant news stories that are relevant and stay current with our many events and activities on campus. Mr. Michael Despars is our Journalism teacher as well and has done an amazing job transitioning our school newspaper to this online format! There are links to many great stories! If you are ever interested in current and past FUHS student news, please visit The Pleiades: Tribe Tribune.
Aeries Parent Portal Update
Aeries has a setting that will allow parents to view a weekly progress report. Parents need to opt-in to a weekly email and can do this through the Aeries login portal. After opting-in, parents will automatically receive progress reports from Aeries gradebooks from teachers of their student. Once this setting is activated, parents will begin to receive weekly progress reports at the start of the second quarter, which is October 15, 2018.

The link to your parent portal can be located off our school website, as well as going to https://mystudent.fjuhsd.net/
They're Back!

NO Parking signs will be posted along Pomona, Ellis and the Pomona lot from Monday afternoon through Wednesday at 3:00.

FUHS Athletics
Thank you Dr. Posthuma for this athletic update!

Athletics for the Week, Sept. 24-28. Here is the latest...

To begin our Athletic Summary for this week, I would like to take a moment to remember one of our fallen Indians. Katie Monson, FUHS class of 2016, passed away this past week after an extended battle with brain cancer. Katie was on our dance team. She was the ASB President at FUHS. We will all miss Katie.  Katie began a foundation to fight brain cancer and promote student leadership entitled The KM Legacy Foundation (KM for Kindness Matters). The KM Legacy Foundation is sponsoring a Kindness Matters Walk on Thanksgiving morning in support of her foundation. The main walk will be in Fullerton, but there is also a virtual walk option for those not located in Fullerton. Visit https://www.kmlegacyfdn.org/kindness-matters-walk/ to register for the walk.

The Girls Tennis team just competed against Buena Park High and scored a victory. The team is 3 and 1 in league! The girls face Troy and La Habra this week.

The girls golf season is nearing its closure. The girls battled Troy and La Habra last week. Although we did not win either match, the opposing coaches both commented on the improvement of the play of our athletes from season to season.

Boys Water Polo is currently 1-1 in Freeway League play. They suffered a loss this past week to Sonora, 9-7. The boys got off to a slow start, Sonora led 9-4 at halftime. The defense kicked in and the Indians shut out the Raiders in the second half. The boys had several great shots that just missed the goal. The team will keep on battling!

Cross Country competed in the league cluster meet this past Wednesday. A cluster meet is one in which all six teams compete at the same time and place. The team ran the Cross Country course at Clark Park. It is a challenging course. Our runners are working hard, pushing themselves to the limits of endurance.

Our Volleyball Team continues to battle in Freeway League play. The girls continue to play with enthusiasm even though the scores are not going our way. Participating on a team is more that merely wins or losses. The girls are learning about teamwork, perseverance and motivation, all skills that people use everyday.

The Football Team began league play with a game against La Habra. La Habra scored the victory, but we had several highlights against a very good team. The team plays Sonora this upcoming Friday, October 5th at Fullerton Stadium. And it is Homecoming! Come to the game and check out the Homecoming events.

This year with the 125th in the history of Fullerton High, we have several memorial events planned for this week.  Follow your favorite Indian teams at our website: fullertonindiansathletics.com You can also follow several of our sports teams on their social media pages! Go Tribe!
