Winning The War In Your Mind

The Bible can be trusted. What you hold in your hand predicted what happen to the Messiah when He came to earth. 700 years before the birth of Jesus, the Prophet Isaiah wrote these words, "Who has believed what we have heard? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? He grew up before Him like a young plant and like a root out of dry ground. He didn’t have an impressive form or majesty that we should look at Him, no appearance that we should desire Him. He was despised and rejected by men, a man of suffering who knew what sickness was. He was like someone people turned away from; He was despised, and we didn’t value Him. Yet He Himself bore our sicknesses, and He carried our pains; but we in turn regarded Him cursed, struck down by God, and afflicted. But He was pierced (crucified) because of our rebellion, crushed because of our iniquities; punishment for our peace was on Him, and we are healed by His wounds. We all went astray like sheep; we all have turned to our own way; and the Lord has punished Him for the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed and afflicted, yet He did not open His mouth. Like a lamb led to the slaughter and like a sheep silent before her shearers, He did not open His mouth. He was taken away because of oppression and judgment, and who considered His fate? For He was cut off from the land of the living; He was struck because of my people’s rebellion. He was assigned a grave with the wicked, but He was with a rich man at his death, because He had done no violence and had not spoken deceitfully. Yet the Lord was willing to crush Him severely. When you make Him a guilt offering, He will see His seed, He will prolong His days, and by His hand, the Lord’s pleasure will be accomplished. After His anguish, He will see light and be satisfied. By His knowledge, my righteous servant will justify many, and He will carry their iniquities. Therefore I will give Him the many as a portion, and He will receive the mighty as His reward, because He willingly submitted to death, and was counted among the rebels; yet He bore the sin of many and interceded for the rebels" -Isaiah 53. Passages like this is how Jesus opened the eyes of the first-century followers. Please never get over the simplicity of the story of Jesus. It has been preached since the beginning. God chose to come in the flesh, to live a sinless life, to be put to death as a sacrifice in our place, if we turn from our sin and put our faith in Him we have eternal life.

What else besides Jesus do people think will satisfy God? Those things actually need to be repented of if they are being used to "gain" God's favor.

What keeps you from sharing your faith? For most people it is a fear of rejection.
For others it is a fear of not knowing what to say or how to say it. Here are a few simple principles for sharing your faith that have been helpful to me.

  • If I am with someone longer than three minutes I try to bring up spiritual matters. I might say, "Out of curiosity, are you from here"? Have you been able to find a church you attend regularly? May I ask you personal question? Do you know for sure if something happened to you today you would spend eternity in heaven with God? May I share with you how the Bible answers that question?"
  • Don't think it is your job to "win" anyone to Christ, the Holy Spirit alone can do that.
  • Sometimes its best to just invite people to church.
  • Other times the door is simply closed and we walk away.
  • Pray everyday, including today, for God to send someone your way.

As you read today, watch for how many times the woman at the well tries to wiggle out of the conversation with Jesus. Watch how Jesus constantly brings her back to her great need of salvation. When you are sharing your faith people will bring up all kinds of topics that have nothing to do with their need for a relationship with God. Always bring them back to Jesus as fast as possible. Master this statement, "Wow, that's a great question. When we are done we can certainly take a look at that."

Every time we invite someone to church, share the gospel with them or perform a good deed, we have the blessing of Jesus. When the blessing of God is on our lives, we can have peace. When we have peace, we win the war in our minds. If you find the battle raging, find someone to share Christ with, I am serious, the peace of God will cover you from head to toe. Can you think of someone you can contact today that needs to hear a word from God? If you do, and you obey by sharing the good news, God's blessing will be all over you.
