Harpist Emily Wren Baxter will perform a variety of French pieces, showcasing the versatility of the modern harp. Emily Wren Baxter, a graduate of Roosevelt University’s Chicago Conservatory for the Performing Arts, has played with the Quad City Symphony, the Chicago Composers Orchestra, the Wicker Park Choral Singers, and other new music ensembles.

In this film series, we’re exploring movie genres: the musical, the western, and film noir. We’re launching this program with a six-month series that explores several tried-and-true film genres through pairings of classic and modern films.

Experience your favorite stories told with yoga poses, demonstrated by certified yoga instructors. Recommended for ages 3 through 10 years old. Be ready to join in the fun! Parents are welcome too! Funding for Yoga and Stories is provided by the Friends of the Bettendorf Public Library.

Child’s Play consists of a 15-minute storytime complete with books, rhymes, and songs followed by 30 minutes of imaginative playtime. This program is best-suited for ages 2 to 6 years old, but all ages are welcome to attend.

Children have the opportunity to read aloud to dogs from Quad City Canines. This is great practice for kids and helps them build their vocabulary and self-confidence. No registration is required.

Film historian William K. Everson called The Land Beyond the Sunset “the screen’s first genuinely lyrical film.” The 15-minute long film has recently been given a new soundtrack which was composed, arranged, performed, and recorded by Davenport musician Neal Smith. Smith will present the film with its new soundtrack and will discuss the history of the film and the process of composing for it. Join Carol Ehlers for the first program in a series of about American Art. Carol is a volunteer for both the Figge Art Museum and the Art Institute of Chicago. Coming in 2021, the Figge Art Museum will host For America: Paintings for the National Academy of Design. This art talk will feature some of the artists whose work will be exhibited in 2021, including the Hudson River School Artists. Other programs in this series will follow on Saturdays April 25 and May 23, at 3:00 p.m.
In February, Pleasant Valley Schools will highlight art work from their students. Bereskin Gallery will feature “Steam Punk Carousel Animals” by Nadine D’Angelo, and Dennison Love will take us on a trip to space with model rockets and shuttles.

In March, Pam Hughes will be displaying quilts, Paul Herrera will showcase his calligraphy, and Dan Moore will help us gear up for the boys of spring with a display of baseball memorabilia.
