A Note from Mrs. Gratt
A Message from the Principal as Summer Looms Around the Corner

It is so hard to believe that another school year has flown by so quickly! What a year we have had with COVID and Snowmaggedon!!! But, with the wonderful support from our faculty and families, we stayed the course to ensure that our students received the very best during a difficult year.

I am always surprised when the end of the school year is upon us. It seems just like yesterday…. the excitement of school opening in the fall. The start of our school year is a time when sometimes we find our students apprehensive about going to class as they renew friendships or begin new ones. Our parents are sad, but also glad to see their children go off to school after another busy summer, and our teachers are ready to make a difference in the lives of yet another group of pupils. In a blink of an eye, we watched the year slip away amidst challenges along the way.

The caring attitudes and monumental efforts of our staff to make a difference for each child does not go unnoticed. An effort to ensure success for our students comes in so many forms. From that first step of building a relationship with a student, to the gentle reminders to stay on task, to do your personal best, and to never give up…no matter how challenging the task. Working, hand in hand, along the way with each child so that each child can be the best that he/she can be – that is what it is all about!

Some of my most memorable moments have been hearing from the voices of our parents, teachers, or students…when success for a student has occurred. Seeing the grateful expressions and sometimes tears of joy on the faces of our parents, when they know their child has been nurtured and has made tremendous gains in their academic progress because of the efforts of our entire school community, is all worth it in the long run.

It continues to be an honor and privilege to work in such a fine school community and school district where the child is always number one on our list. The commitment of our parents, our wonderful PTA, and the entire staff working together continually impresses me. The dedication noted by all parties to make Wolford the best community for our kids is evident. It makes me proud to see such pride in our learning community.

As we near the end of yet another school year, I want to take a moment to thank you, thank you, and thank you for serving our students each and every day. Thank you for caring enough about our children to touch their lives with the richness of an education, a hug, smile, or a pat on the back to help make that difference as our students move towards the path of success. As summer looms just around the corner, I wish each member of our school community a safe and relaxing summer with family, friends, and most importantly our children. See you in August!

If you have an incoming kindergarten student or know of any NEW families in your neighborhood, please help us spread the word. The sooner we register new students, the better.

Summer Reading Challenge:
Click on the link below to access an amazing Wolford Summer Reading Challenge! Be sure to scroll through all 3 pages to see many reading ideas and resources!
Your child received a Summer Technology Opt Out Form on Friday, April 30th (see attached copy). We are asking for a response from all parents by May 7, 2021. You have the option to let Wolford Elementary keep your child’s laptop over the summer (with charger). There are some factors to consider as you make this decision. Please choose one of the options and return the form to your child’s teacher by Friday, May 7th. Virtual student’s parents can email Mrs. Perret at pperret@mckinneyisd.net with your option. Contact Mrs. Perret with any questions.
Virtual K-2 Devices

Virtual Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd graders need to return any devices and chargers they have borrowed from McKinney ISD starting on Friday, May 21st after school until 4:00 or Monday, May 24th between 7:30-4:00 (or contact Peggy Perret at pperret@mckinneyisd.net to make other arrangements).
● Laptops/chargers need to be labeled with tape or a sticky note with the student’s name and teacher so they can be cleared from their account.
● Families can turn devices in earlier if they would like, but it is important that students have access to technology to complete work all the way until school ends. Coming up over the summer to turn in devices is not a problem, we just don’t want anyone coming up if the school is locked. Families need to call the school before coming up or email pperret@mckinneyisd.net to set up a dropoff time if they can’t drop off by May 24th.

All Wolford library books are due on May 17th. Please help your child locate any missing books. If you cannot find them, please contact Mrs. Perret or Mrs Drane at 469-302-4730 to get a replacement cost. You can also email any questions or concerns to the following addresses:
If you have any questions or concerns about books or the Learning Commons, please contact Peggy Perret at (469) 302-4731 perret@mckinneyisd.net or Michelle Drane at (469) 302-4730 mdrane@mckinneyisd.net .
$$ for Wolford by Shopping for your family
Dear Parent or Guardian,

In an effort to promote a safe and healthy environment for students and staff, the District has been working to put in place new health and social distancing protocols in response to COVID-19. It is important for all parents to have a working knowledge of the infectious period of someone with COVID-19. People are infectious before they have symptoms, meaning they could be spreading the disease without even knowing it.

Therefore, it is imperative that parents abide by the following regulations:
  • ·   Parents are to screen their child, daily prior to arriving on campus, for any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 including:
Feeling Feverish or Fever (100.0 or greater) Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
Cough Fatigue (Excessively tired)
Significant muscle or body aches Headache
Loss of taste or smell Sore throat
Congestion or runny nose Diarrhea Chills
If your child demonstrates any of the above signs or symptoms, he/she must stay home until COVID-19 Return to School Criteria is met OR an alternative diagnosis from a medical professional is received by the campus nurse. Please report your child’s absence to the campus nurse. Please do not give fever reducing medication and send your child to school.
When a parent/guardian is called regarding an ill student at school, the parent/guardian must arrange for the student to be picked up in a timely manner (within 30-60 min). Please plan accordingly, and have a responsible adult who is willing and available to pick up your child. In the event you need to send someone that is not in your emergency contact list, make sure that you have communicated who the person is with the campus.
A student displaying COVID-19 symptoms will be isolated in the clinic or other designated isolation area with a mask in place until your arrival.
Continuously make sure all contact and emergency contact phone numbers are updated in the student information system. Please place your child’s campus phone number in the contacts on your phone. This will ensure calls from the campus are recognized.
Students exhibiting signs or symptoms of illness will not, under any circumstance, be allowed to walk or bike home, ride the bus, or utilize a ride service.
The District is asking that parents follow the recommendations set forth by the CDC, Texas State Department of Health Services(DSHS), and Texas Education Agency(TEA) and have your child wear a face covering when developmentally appropriate. If there is a medical condition that prohibits your child from wearing a face covering, please contact the school nurse.
Please be sure your child washes or sanitizes his/her hands before leaving home for the school day.
