Many Thanks
Thanks to all who donated baked goods, arts and crafts, and to all of you who shopped at the annual UMW Bake/Craft Sale. We had such a wonderful variety of items and selections. Preparing the Way"
Scripture: Luke 1:46-56
Sermon: "The Humble Travels of Magnificent Mary"
This Sunday:
This Sunday the focus will shift from the Cantata and Pageants of last week. We will turn back and focus on the journey taken by a young girl; a young girl who was no more than fourteen years old. She was chosen, set apart, lifted up, but why? To a great extent she had to have been unprepared for the angelic invitation. She knew the law, the risks, the potential accusations that would come at her. She knew that her life could be threatened by answering "yes" to this unusual invitation. So, how could she have been prepared? And yet, it appears as though she was. It's her response that answers all of those questions.
Like other biblical women before her, her
preparation for this day had come in multiple ways. It wasn't that she was so special, so holy, so spiritual that she was set apart from others. She was, however, faithful. She was prepared by her relationship and trust in God. She was prepared because of her deep relationship with Joseph. She was prepared by the promises of an angelic voice, and open to the message because she believed. In other words, like so many unexpected yet faithful servants before her, she answered the call of God with a humble yet confident yes. She had unknowingly prepared for this throughout her life and her response is the perfect example of what came of that preparation. Her song is a testament to her heart. So this Sunday, we'll examine that in multiple ways. To prepare please read Luke 1:46-56.

The annual business meeting of the church will be held on Monday, December 17 at 7:00pm. All are welcome to attend. It's a great time to learn more about our congregation, our leaders, our membership, our finances, and our hopes for the future. We will have a simple soup supper together at 6:00pm and the meeting will begin at 7:00pm. Even if you can't make dinner, please come to the meeting. Christmas Eve Candlelight Services

On Monday,

we invite you and your family, friends, and neighbors to worship with us for evening candlelight services on Christmas Eve.
5:00pm
- A child-oriented family friendly candlelight service where we involve
the children in the r
etelling of the Christmas story and sing Christmas carols.
7:00pm
- A more contemporary candlelight service centered on music by the worship
band and includes scripture readings and more modern Christmas carols.
9:00pm
- A traditional candlelight service with carols, scripture readings, handbells, and Holy Communion.

December 30 Service @ 10:00am
On Sunday, December 30, we will have one worship service at 10:00am. Vince Fratello will bring the message as we consider the how our lives and our relationship with God change and evolve. It will be an informal service. Come as you are.

Calling All Cookie Bakers and Cocoa Makers!

Allott Memorial Fund
Church member Bev Allott passed away and, at her request, there will be no memorial service. A memorial fund has been established in her name. The proceeds will be used for a special church interest of hers to be chosen at a later time. Youth Homelessness

Have you read the article about homeless youth in the Seattle Times? King County is in crisis with over 1500 youth and young adults living on the streets. 20% of these young people have been kicked out of their families because of their gender identification or sexual orientation that is not acceptable to their families.
The CRC and Outreach teams have invited Kimberly Turner to speak on a program sponsored by Friends of Youth and The Y on how the community can address this problem It will be held on Sunday,

6 at 10:15am in Friendship Hall. Please put time on your calendar to either stay after 1st service or come early for 2nd service.

Pastor's Class Resumes in 2019
Wednesday, January 16
The Pastor's class will resume on Wednesday,
January 16
. It is offered at 10:00am and 7:00pm, same class at two different times. For the first few months of the new year, we will do an in-depth book study on Brian McLaren's book, "We Make the Road by Walking." It is designed to be a year-long study for spiritual formation, reorientation and activation, or reactivation of our focus on faith. During each class we will examine more thoroughly the scriptures, commentary, and discussion questions presented in the book. We will be utilizing this resource for many of the sermons on our Sundays through Easter and beyond. Our Bishop has recommended this book as together we approach the upcoming General Conference. We will have the book available for purchase in January for $12.

Centering Prayer Group
In these turbulent times, prayer and meditation are essential. You are invited to the Centering Prayer/Lectio Divina group that meets at Aldersgate on Friday afternoons at 2:00pm. This is an opportunity to open your mind to God's insight. Interested - contact Sabrina Macintyre or Bob Olson.

Emerald City Ringers Concert
Saturday December 15 at 4:00pm
Come and see the Emerald City Ringers in their Christmas Concert for 2018, "Seasons of Love." You'll recognize a couple of faces from the AUMC handbell choir
(Pastor Laura and Pam Johnson) and lots of tunes from the Christmas season. Suggested donation is $12 for adults, $8 for seniors/students, $5 for children, and $30 for a family.

We will create pizzas starting at 6:00pm and end with ringing in the New Year at 9:00pm (12 midnight Eastern Standard Time,) What to bring: Your favorite pizza topping(s), leftover Christmas cookies and treats, your favorite games, and any noise makers (pots and pans, etc.) for our "midnight" celebration. 2019 Yoga Series
Starts January 5
Got a New Year's resolution? Vince Fratello can help with his introductory series of yoga classes at Aldersgate after the New Year. The classes will be taught at the most basic beginner level and will be organized to accommodate all body types and physical abilities. Class 1 always starts at the beginning so don't worry. The series will tentatively be ten Saturdays,
January 5 to March 9

Class time will be
9:00-10:15am.
Students will be asked to bring a sticky
yoga mat (ask if you are unsure) and Vince will supply the rest of the props. The cost will be $50 per student for the entire series-you can try out the first class with no financial commitment and scholarships are available if needed. If you have questions you can contact Vince

Club 345 (3rd~4th~5th Grade)
February 3
Club 345 is open to all 3rd, 4th and 5th graders and meets once a month usually on the first Sunday evening for dinner and a fun activity. The next meeting is February 3 at 5:00pm. Volunteers are always needed to host the Club 345 activity or to provide the dinner. Please sign up on the CYF bulletin board by the church office.

Christmas Giving Opportunities
- Vision House is a non-profit based in Renton that provides dozens of homeless women and children with a place to live, child care, education, and support while becoming self sufficient. Your donations of gift cards for groceries, clothing, gasoline and personal items for $10 to $50 are a great help for these women during the year. These will be available in the narthex for you to choose. Please return your gift cards by Sunday December 16.
- Hopelink Christmas Gift Store provides gifts for needy children from infants to 18 year olds. Aldersgate focuses on teenagers because gifts for them are often in short supply/ Please donate gifts such as warm clothing, gift cards, makeup, sports equipment, movie cards. A donation box is in the narthex. Deadline is Sunday Dec. 16.

Warm Socks Needed
School has started and rains have returned! The need for warm socks touches everyone, especially the homeless. Please leave new socks in the basket across from the office. They will be delivered to Congregations for the Homeless, Griffin House, Mary's Place, Operation Nightwatch and Sophia Way. Griffin House may be new to many in our congregation. Located in Renton, Griffin House serves homeless boys. Imagine what a pair of socks in Seahawks colors would mean to its new owner!

Friends of Youth Collection
The Considering Reconciling Committee is sponsoring a three week collection drive for Friends of Youth this holiday season. Friends of Youth is an organization that works with homeless youth in Bellevue providing counseling, transitional housing, case management, education, employment, and behavioral health management services. Approximately 20% of youth who are homeless in our area are estranged from their families because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. The supplies we collect will be donated after worship on January 6. Bring your donations to Friendship Hall starting Sunday December 16.
The current list of needs includes:
- New underwear for youth (men and women)
- Socks
- Full-size soaps, shampoo, shaving products
- Fleece blankets
- Cleaning supplies for youth moving into transitional housing.
- New dish sets.
- New glassware sets.
- New pots and pans sets.
- New twin XL bedding sets.
- Laundry baskets and laundry soap.
- New shower curtain with matching towels.
- Gift cards for new apartment items for youth moving into transitional housing
