Hispanic Covid-19 Vaccine Day: Volunteers Needed

This Saturday, April 24, from 1-4 pm, LMSA and the Savannah Undocumented Youth Alliance (SUYA) are partnering in a culturally-sensitive COVID-19 immunization day for the Latino community in Savannah. Any students on the Savannah campus wanting to volunteer with vaccinations to sign up via the form linked below.
Notes for volunteers:
- Spanish proficiency is not required!
- Nurses from the Chatham County Health Department will be there to assist.

Bring your Vaccine Administration Training Record Card/Sheet if applicable.
- Remember to bring your badge and wear a Mercer t-shirt or orange!

Ethics Faculty Candidate Presentation: Dr. Emran
April 19 | 1 pm
Dr. Shahram Emran, a medical doctor and bioethicist will present "An Intro to Medical Ethics" to faculty and students. Dr. Emran studied Ancient Languages and Culture and Public Health at the University of Tehran. He holds master’s degrees in Religious Studies from the University of Virginia and Health Care Ethics from Saint Louis University (SLU). He recently defended his dissertation and earned a PhD in Bioethics from SLU. His dissertation titled, Dynamicity of Roles, Goals, and Virtues in Medical Practice: Ethical implications was awarded Pass with Distinction. He has taught various medical ethics courses to medical students and trainees. His current area of research includes virtues in medical practice and phenomenology of medicine.

Raising Awareness: Providing support to the Asian American Community - Recording
Dr. Michelle Lee, a resident physician and community activist in Manhattan, discussed the recent rise of violence against the Asian community. Medical students also shared their personal experiences with racism. We also discussed how others can help and support the Asian community. The recording is available at the link below. How to Land an Orthopaedic Residency - Recording
Corey Spencer, Class of 2021, who will begin his orthopedic surgery residency at Emory this summer, presented his application experience. The presentation includes a discussion of away rotations for the next calendar year. Mercer will continue to follow guidelines set by the AAMC and the Coalition for Physician Accountability responsibility, which limits away rotations to one per students and advises that those rotations be in the institutions home state or contiguous states.
