Another Successful Year
at the Asbury Pie Cafe'
Submitted by Paul Merritt
This year the total number of pies sold was 1843 and the total income was $70,000. This total amount was increased by a generous gift from Thomas Gammill in memory of Esther Gammill. Esther was the Pie Lady for several years.  After paying expenses there will be $50,000 to fund the charities.

Picking up Pieces After Philippines Super Typhoon
by Gladys Mangiduyos UMNS
United Methodists were picking up the pieces and preparing to assist others after the super Typhoon Mangkhut struck the northern part of the Philippines.

The full extent of the damage from Mangkhut is yet to be determined, but 54 people had been declared dead and another 49 were still missing Sept. 17 after the typhoon triggered a massive mudslide that destroyed hundreds of homes,  according to CNN. Philippines officials say Cagayan is one of the provinces worst affected by the storm.

McCurdy Ministries VIM Opportunities
The summer season is when McCurdy Ministries Community Center has the most volunteers. This past summer, over 150 volunteers with 12 sets of work teams, from seven states across the country served at McCurdy.

McCurdy is now scheduling individual volunteers, VIM, Emergency Response and NOMAD Teams for 2018-2019. You may come 12 months out of the year. With McCurdy's transition to a community center, they have construction, building demolition and program development needs. You may even drive a tractor!

To volunteer, contact Eufemia Romero at eromero@mccurdy.org or 505-753-7221 or Click here for the website.
