Where We Live, Love, and Learn Faithfully
September 24, 2020 | Volume 99 | Issue 5 | 2020-2021
Gracious and loving God, we thank your for the gift of our priests.
Through them, we experience your presence in the sacraments.
Help our priests to be strong in their vocation.
Set their souls on fire with love for your people.
Grant them the wisdom, understanding, and strength they need to follow in the footsteps of Jesus.
Inspire them with the vision of your Kingdom.
Give them the words they need to spread the Gospel.
Allow them to experience joy in their ministry.
Help them to become instruments of your divine grace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns as our Eternal Priest.
Amen.

UPDATE: Emergency Food Service Program
District 11, our lunch food service, has moved to an Emergency Food Service Program on September 1, 2020. This means that ALL students from PS through 8th grade can receive a free lunch. The lunch will be a cold sack lunch which must be ordered by the student at the beginning of the day. Whole lunch orders will reflect in Teacherease but will not be assessed a fee starting September 1, 2020. We are in the process of removing fees for lunches that were entered September 1st and 2nd.

Since this is a USDA issued program, only whole lunches qualify to be free. Any a la carte items, such as milk and water, must still be purchased. White milk is $0.60, Chocolate milk is $0.70, and water is $0.80.

This program is scheduled to continue through December 31, 2020, but we will notify you if this date is moved up. The district 11 students are not in school as this time which is why the lunch program went into effect.

All balances due prior to September 1, 2020 must be paid by Friday, September 11, 2020 or they will be added to your TADS payment on September 20, 2020. Parents are responsible for paying the entire TADS amount including additional fees due to changed contract amounts. Support for Parents

Our role as parents is to love our children, provide for their basic needs and attend to their whole development. This includes their physical, emotional, moral and spiritual health. As we head into a school year that is unlike anything we have experienced, Play Like a Champion has compiled tools and expert advice to support parents in their efforts to provide for children in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Consider these tips:
LOVE
Parents can express love for your children every day with words and actions. Embrace them in a hug. Use the words, “I love you.” Particularly in days that are full of uncertainty, we all need affirmation and encouragement.

PHYSICAL MOVEMENT
With organized sports still significantly affected or paused in many communities, it's important that parents keep children moving each day. Exercise is good for the body, mind and soul - both for your child and for yourself. Get moving together as a family. Visit the Active Kids page on Play Like a Champion's website for ideas and resources from across the internet. Select an activity that your entire family will enjoy and line-up friendly competitions among your family members.

EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING
We are all still struggling with disruptions to our normal routines. Children rely on routines constructed by others to help them feel safe and to know what comes next. Both school and sports play a significant role in the lives of children, with changes to the norm likely to cause a variety of difficult feelings and issues for both parents and children. These can include anxiety, fear, behavioral issues, difficulty sleeping, nightmares, testing limits and meltdowns. As parents, acknowledge these feelings are real. Avoid saying, “You shouldn’t feel that way.” Help your children to express how they are feeling by having regular family discussions about feelings, normalizing their existence.
MORAL PURPOSE
Work to find meaning during this difficult period of time. There is a lot of scary, negative, and overwhelming information to take in regarding this pandemic. There are also many stories of people sacrificing and supporting one another in amazing ways. It is important to counter-balance the heavy information with hopeful information and find a way your family can contribute to the good amidst the challenge.

SPIRITUAL HEALTH, DAILY GRATITUDE & LAUGHTER
As a family, make time every day to pray together and to read scripture or another spiritual reading as a family. Additionally, take time every evening as a family to express gratitude. Expressing daily gratitude for the blessings that we have will remind us where goodness and God’s grace exist. Finally, remember to incorporate laughter into your family’s daily routine.

SET GOALS
Goal setting is an important part of the Play Like a Champion approach and can be a terrific way to stay active in the current environment. Consider downloading a simple Weekly Goal Worksheet (right) and working together to set and achieve both family and individual goals. Remember to set physical, mental, moral and spiritual goals, then set a time to check-in each week as a family and see how you're doing. This practice can create a positive experience and help everyone stay strong in the midst of COVID-19.
Volunteer Opportunities
Lunch/Yard Duty
We are looking for volunteers to help with lunch and yard duty supervision this year.  If you are able to come in for 1 or more days per week on a weekly basis from 10:45 am-1:25 pm (or part of that time period, but on a weekly basis) to volunteer for this position, a tuition discount is possible. Preference given to those who have had CPR/1st Aid training. Remember, any adult family member of a student can also volunteer and contribute to their family's 30 volunteer hours/year requirement. This includes grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins, as long as they have gone through or are willing to go through the required safety training, background check, and reference check the Diocese requires for adults who are working or volunteering with children. Please contact Monique Callahan at mcallahan@corpuschristicos.org or (719) 632-5092 x 114.

Car Line
We are looking for individuals who have been or are willing to be Safe Environment trained to help with drop off and pick up. These individuals would assist in opening car doors, taking temperatures, and directing students. If interested, please contact Anneliese Degenhart at adegenhart@corpuschristicos.org.

Library Assistance
We are looking for a few volunteers to assist in sanitizing and re-shelving library books. If interested, please contact Monique Callahan at mcallahan@corpuschristicos.org

Parish Volunteers
Volunteers needed around the parish facilities. In an effort to be the best stewards of your generous contributions to the parish, we rely on parishioners to share the load by volunteering.

Fr. Brian is wanting to build a team of able bodied volunteers for a couple hours each week to help with various “honey dos” around the parish facilities. This may include light yard work, pulling/spraying weeds, trimming bushes, picking up trash, changing out light bulbs, etc. If someone has skills in a certain area, that would be helpful to the parish that would be wonderful. Painting, light plumbing, small carpentry projects etc.  Please email Laney at parish@corpuschristicos.org, or call the parish office for more information.
Before & After School Care
CCCS is excited to partner with Innovation Learning for Before and After School Care. Registration is now open! If you are in need of a scholarship or have multiple children who will attend, please email info@innovationlearning.com

You must register in order for the program to start! Innovation Learning must have a minimum of 10 full-time registered students (does not include "drop in") in the K-8 program and a minimum of 6 full-time registered students in order to start the program. Current start date for Preschool-8th grade is Monday, October 5, 2020.
Health Information
Thank you for your cooperation with our health screening protocols! In addition, we are asking for your cooperation in letting us know immediately if you or your child comes in contact with a friend or family member who has tested positive for COVID-19.

If you travel out of the state, please be mindful to follow health guidelines: wear your mask at all times, wash your hands diligently, avoid large group gatherings especially inside of buildings, and use social distancing. Your cooperation will help to minimize possible COVID-19 exposure and will help the entire school to remain open for in-person learning.
Uniform Requirements
Students who attend CCCS are required to comply to the uniform code. Please review the uniform policy as outlined in the Family Handbook 2020-2021 (starting on page 35) including clothes, hair, shoes, socks, jewelry, etc. Parents will be notified of violations starting on September 8, 2020 and are expected to help their child correct them.
