For this month's Donor Spotlight, we had the pleasure of speaking with Gary Ahr. He and his wife, Sara, are community activists and volunteers who are involved in many organizations in North Texas. Through their philanthropic work, they are creating positive change for social organizations, including First3Years, by providing strategic problem solving for a number of social issues in our community.

What attracted you to the organization/Why did you get involved?
In your opinion, what is the most important work that this organization does?
The work that First3Years is doing to influence systematic policy change across the state of Texas, in my opinion, is so incredibly important. We have got to invest in our children's futures and that begins at birth, right at the start.
How does First3Years uniquely contribute to the community?
The approach that First3Years has on the foster care system is extremely unique. The idea to redesign the processes and protocols of this system by centering it around the [developmental] needs of infants and toddlers can create lasting change.
What do you hope the organization will achieve in the near future? In the long term?
My hope for the organization is for continued growth, and success in creating policy change at the state level to help support young children in the foster care system.
Do you have an anecdote about this organization that really moved you? Or is there anything else you would like to share?
