This Sunday's Sermon...
It was Apple who first put out a thank you note, advertising their cutting edge technology. "Here's to the crazy ones," they said. "The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently." The ad goes on and on. At the end it says, "We make tools for these kinds of people. Where some people see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones that do."  Most of us just need someone to believe in us. Another's confidence often builds our courage and we risk failure because, by golly, we just might pull it off. Jesus knew this and had the gumption to say to a band of misfits who were surely intimidated by what was ahead of them, "You got this. You'll not only do what I'm doing... you'll do even greater things!" Could it be? Could you? Could I? Could our church? What would Jesus say?

Drive-By "Bye-Bye" & Blessing for Debby Graham
After 17 years on the Broadway staff, Debby Graham will retire on September 30!  Help us bless her on her way between 3-4 PM this Sunday - we will be stationed under the Narthex covered drive - so rain or shine, take a few moments to thank Debby for her years of service.

Special Board Meeting Called
It is with enthusiasm for the future and by unanimous approval of the Executive Committee of Broadway Christian Church, that I announce a special meeting of the Board for Tuesday, September 29, at 7:00 PM (via ZOOM). The purpose of the meeting is to receive informational items from the Personnel Committee concerning the creation of three new positions in response to our ministerial vacancy and Debby Graham's upcoming retirement. Those three positions are laid out in September's Broadway Life; one full-time, two part-time. The Board will be invited to vote on the structure of the full-time position, Director of Youth Ministries and Faith Formation, intended to fill the third role on our Collaborative ministerial team along with Terry and Mark. As informational items, the Personnel Team will share two candidates selected to fill the full-time role and one part-time role (Director of Community Engagement) respectively. Candidates for the part-time Director of Communications role are being sought at this time. With much prayer, discernment, and consideration poured into this collaborative structure, I joyfully submit this announcement to you and covet your prayers as we live into our future with great hope and excitement.

-- Deb Ward, Board Chair

If we must cancel, a "drive-through" blessing will be offered by Mark and other worship team members.  You will have plenty of time to get home and tune in to Virtual Worship at 10:30 AM.

Pathways Begins Virtual Sunday School October 4 school_bus_drawing.jpg
September was a month to give our Broadway families time to adjust to online school for their children, and to re-acquaint themselves with things like algebra, chemistry and Shakespeare!  And then there was the technology and the occasional glitches....
Children's Ministry has been actively surveying parents on when and how to begin Sunday School for elementary-aged children.  Not wanting to add "one more thin" to parents' to-do lists, Children's Ministry will provide activity kits that may be done during the "live" class, or later with parents at another time. If you have not received notification from Miss Aimee, please contact her by email.

Yes - we said it, Christmas!

The Disasters of 2020 Just Keep Coming...
We did not ask "what else could happen," but Hurricane Sally has joined the Hit Parade of 2020 Disasters nonetheless!
COVID, wildfires, drought, hurricanes, hunger earthquakes - and now at least one more hurricane - Week of Compassion takes our offering for disaster relief and sends it where it is needed most!  You may send in  a check with "disaster relief" in the memo, or make an online donation through Realm.
There are literally millions of people around the world who are suffering - please keep them in your prayers as we continue to negogiate a very difficult year.
Zoom  In @ Noon with Pastor Mark

If you have never joined the Zoom@Noon group, maybe next Monday is your day!   The group meets for a bit less than hour, and you never know whose face you'll see or voice you'll hear - maybe a Broadway members who has moved or a member who is home-bound due to COVID concerns.   Pastor Mark will be available over the noon hour for conversation and reflection - the casual and important moments that we miss on Sunday morning!  Just click on the image and join the conversation.
