Dealing with the Effects of Trauma
Each day can be an emotional challenge when you are working on recovering from trauma. It’s important to help yourself feel better using positive techniques, rather than doing things that can have negative consequences for you such as drinking, committing crimes, or hurting yourself. Here are a few positive ideas to help yourself feel better in the moment.
Barriers to Healing
In order to heal from grief or trauma, it’s important to learn how to take care of yourself using healthy techniques, such as those shared in the article above. Unhealthy ways of dealing with trauma, such as alcohol or drug abuse, being in abusive or unsupportive relationships, or other self-destructive behaviors can create a barrier for healing and ultimately have negative consequences for your life. If you feel trapped in negative behavior patterns, it’s important to get some help! Join a support group, work with a counselor, attend a 12-step program, or use the many self-help books that are available.
