Programming supported in part by

Dear Friends,

As 2018 draws to a close, I am filled with gratitude for the many gifts of our 27th year.

Our adult and youth writing circles continue to thrive. We welcome all of you who are new! Your voices deepen and enrich our collective community. New programs are being offered in response to your requests and suggestions. Community partnerships are blossoming, while longtime outreach relationships continue, giving us the opportunity to provide writing circles for girls experiencing homelessness, women in prison, and women in recovery, among others. We are currently preparing a rich array of programs to build connection, strengthen voices, and inspire your creativity in 2019!

I hope that the winter months for you are a time of quiet and rest, a pause for restoring your energies to kindle the flame of your creative life. Thanks to each and every one of you for the gifts that you bring to the WWf(a)C community and for helping us spread the word about who we are and what we offer. Sending wishes for a peaceful holiday season.

With Gratitude,
Diane Debevec
Executive Director

Gratitude for Your Generosity

Thank you for your generosity on #GivingTuesday! Gifts from forty-seven friends and supporters totaled $2,140 which will go directly to support WWf(a)C outreach programs and individual scholarships. Outreach circles currently reach women escaping domestic violence; women in prison or fighting addiction; homeless teens; and young boys and girls in after school programs that offer time and space for self-expression through writing and for connection to others.  Your gifts make a difference!

Women Writing for (a) Change partners with the Cincinnati Art Museum for the third program in this ten-part series. Inspired by the exhibit, participants will be led in the creative process of considering the cultural contexts of the folios, then finding their own words to respond. Writing prompts will guide participants in their own journey to discover, question and understand more about the traditions and the lives of the people behind the exhibit. Facilitated by Katherine Meyer. Register here.

Women at Fifth Third Experience Women Writing for (a) Change

Nearly 60 women employees at Fifth Third Bank found their voices in a new way at a WWf(a)C Sampler facilitated by former WWf(a)C board chair  Beth  Fritsch, FLA '09. On October 12, Beth and four assistants brought the sampler to the Fifth Third Women's Business Resource Group, which brings in external speakers monthly for educational, professional and inspirational programming.

"I was so pleased to introduce this process in the corporate setting which is already structurally challenged in a way that tends to inhibit voice,"  Beth said.

During the 90-minute session, participants responded to writing prompts, shared in small groups, and ended with more writing time and a large group readaround with readbacks.

All participants were brand new to the WWf(a)C experience, and feedback was positive.

"There was no hesitation at all in embracing the process. The women's pens were down and moving freely. Wanting more time to write was a plea uttered by most participants. It was heartwarming to observe how actively the women engaged with the transformational process and the freedom which lit up their faces as they left the sampler."
