I am becoming so much more peaceful and much better able to stay optimistic about the issues I deal with in my work." -- Janice, professional environmental advocate/activist.

"The coaching work we did over the last year had a dramatic impact in my personal and professional growth.  Through the coaching sessions I was able to develop an efficient strategy for planning my goals and implementing those plans.  And even more you helped me learn to focus on the present moment in order to face my fears with a positive and realistic perspective.   With your help I was able to create a new organization devoted to creating horizontal leadership within the Latino community, to participate in historical change of political regime in my country and find a new job that fulfills my immediate needs and expectations.  Thank you Cylvia for all your support." - Eduardo, social entrepreneur.

"You reached into my troubled waters and pulled me ashore. You were entirely concerned and caring about my situation.  I don't know of another soul in the world that could have done this and made such a positive difference in my life, than you." - AJ, wildlife conservationist

"Doing the resiliency and empowerment work with you was life-changing! Adding this into our strategic planning process has given our organization the boost we needed. Congratulations to Our Client Radiant Pain Relief Centers for Recent Success
We are so happy for our client, Radiant Pain Relief Centers, for this great coverage in Inc. magazine, who called their book about non-opioid chronic pain relief a "Manifesto". Great job team!

Inc.com contributor, Benjamin P. Hardy, stated, " I came across Radiant Relief: A Case for a Better Solution to Chronic Pain, by P. Brendon Lundberg and David B. Farley MD and was pleasantly surprised. The book is essentially a manifesto about the backward methods of society and the healthcare system in approaching human pain and suffering."

Radiant Pain Relief Centers has developed a cutting edge, highly effective, non-pharmaceutical treatment for chronic pain. The company is growing strong and moving into a new level of investor opportunity.

Being a Peaceful, Powerful Activist
by Cylvia Hayes

As social change advocates and activists we face all the normal challenges that come along with this human journey AND the added challenge of sitting in the middle of big, painful societal issues. It takes a lot of courage to open our hearts and minds to this type of work and sometimes it can leave us feeling depleted. As Kermit said, "It ain't easy being green."

Well, it might not be easy but it IS vitally important. We are living in a time of profound consequence. Not only are the issues before us enormous but so is the growing global response, millions of organizations and growing numbers of governments are actively working toward a saner, healthier world and a bright future. The efforts of environmental and social change activists are the most important force on our planet at this time and we need to stay balanced, resilient and effective in this work.

Here are a few tips for doing exactly that:
  • Learn to release unnecessary fear by coming into the Now.
The simple fact is unless we train ourselves differently, most of us spend the bulk of our lives focused on the past or the future, often in fear. When working on big gnarly issues like climate change we have an added layer of worry and angst. But ask yourself this, right now in this very moment, are you basically OK? Are you right now, under direct attack? In this very moment are you warm? Do you have shelter and food? Are you breathing? If you have time to read this sentence your answer is almost certainly yes!

To become present, look around you right now wherever you are. Notice the sights. Take a deep breath through your nose and notice the scents. Listen to the many sounds and the little silences between them. Feel the chair beneath you, supporting you. Focus on the breath gently moving in and out of your body. Feel the rhythm of your beating heart. Run your right hand gently across the top of your left. Notice. Breathe.

Practicing truly being in the present moment is the single best way I have found to gain some distance from the fears we're feeling so that we can accurately assess which ones merit action and which are just sapping our energy.
  • Take it one step further with meditation.
Meditation changes the way our brain works, shifts our inner state of being and has a multitude of benefits on our health. Regular meditation is one of the simplest, fastest ways to be more peaceful in our lives and powerful in our work. It adds immeasurably to our ability to be resilient during hardship and even to our ability to make clear and tough decisions that can help us survive. Not only does meditation help us navigate the hard times it also adds meaning, depth and beauty to the good times.

Starting a regular meditation practice doesn't have to be complicated or terribly time consuming. You can start very simply. In the time it takes you to put your clothes on in the morning you can begin to clothe your mind in peace, release and relief.
  • Be media savvy
As change-agents most of us strive to be well-informed. However, so much of what we call news is actually infotainment, highly sensationalized and carefully crafted to trigger an emotional response. It's not so much about informing us as getting us to click links and buy things. The mainstream media culture feeds us the world through a lens of scarcity, crisis and fear. Coverage of positive developments and progress addressing global problems are virtually non-existent. But that doesn't mean those positive developments aren't real. I still watch plenty of the sensationalist news outlets but I have learned to question what I'm hearing and to make sure I also plug into positive news sources such as Positive News, Yes Magazine and Nation Swell.   This recent  3E blog post offers some additional tips for becoming more media savvy.

Along those lines here is great short video clip from Pachamama Alliance showing 5 Positive World Trends - it is worth a viewing.   Finally, this TED talk shows some of the practical and doable things that are right within our grasp for making real progress addressing global climate change. The speaker is Chad Frischmann of Project Drawdown.

Here's to being more peaceful and powerful and kicking butt in our good work for great causes in 2019!

Sacred Activism: Being More Peaceful, Powerful Social Change Advocates

This is a challenging time to be an environmental or social change advocate. There is a lot going on, a lot of bad news and a lot of seeming chaos. It can be very easy to feel burned out, in pain and too overwhelmed to be inspired. Too often we slip into the same level of consciousness - the anger, the fear, the othering - that created a lot of the problems in the first place.

In this interactive workshop we will address key environmental and cultural problems we are currently facing in a way that will help you transform fear and despair into inspiration and a sense of empowerment. We will explore gratitude, anger, grief, and hope and move into a deeper understanding of how to create a more sustainable, just, and peaceful world where all beings can thrive.

We will learn how to raise awareness and take action on important issues in ways that are respectful, healing and unifying. Our intention is to cultivate more resilient, empowered activists and more active spiritual practitioners.

You will get tools to help you:
  • Stay optimistic and peaceful while working on challenging issues
  • Stay above the level of consciousness that created the problems in the first place
  • Effectively navigate the resistance, fight and war language that issues are often framed in
  • Stay well-informed without being inundated with negative, often misleading news
  • Learn the power of simple meditation, mindfulness and presencing practices.
