The Debate Surrounding Proposed Rules Changes
This week, golf's two governing bodies, the USGA and R&A, proposed 30 changes to the Rules of Golf that they hope will simplify the game for everyone. We sat down with our good friend, member of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club at Saint Andrews and USGA Rules Official, Mack Clapp. Mr. Clapp believes that not everyone will agree on the proposed changes to the rules of golf, but simplifying the game is a giant step in the right direction. He believes the USGA and R&A deserve credit for taking on this monumental task.
Often times, people are deterred from picking up the game of golf due to the daunting rule-sheet that comes along with it, his hope is that this will no longer be the case. The next six months will prove to be interesting as golfers of all types are encouraged to send in their feedback, and although these amendments won't be in full effect until 2019, we're excited to see the game transform.
