Third down month of construction spending pegged to slight home-building drop  - The total value of U.S. construction put in place surprised economists with a 0.1% slip during October. Much of the total decline was due to a 0.5% drop in residential construction, according to the latest U.S. Commerce Department data cited by ForConstructionPros.com.
 
How contractors can use the R&D tax credit - Back in the 1980's, tax credits for research and development rarely applied to contractors. But changes to the tax code between then and now have opened up this credit to a wide variety of sectors, including construction, MEP contractors and consulting engineers, writes Rich Wile for Construction Executive
 
Tax-saving opportunity for 'opportunity zone' investors - An amendment to last year's tax reform bill created Qualified Opportunity Zones, designed to spur investment in low-income communities. But the new regulations also offer a potential tax-saving bonanza to investors looking to defer or abate their capital gains, according to Forbes.com contributor Steve Rosenthal.
