Teenaged Astrid Lindgren, future author of Pippi Longstocking, leads a carefree life in rural Sweden. Eager to break free from her conservative upbringing, she accepts an internship at a local newspaper where she attracts the attention of its married editor. After Astrid becomes pregnant, she leaves home to give birth to a son, whom she reluctantly leaves with a foster mother. When the foster mother falls ill, Astrid uses her imagination and flair for storytelling to reconnect with her child. Becoming Astrid pays tribute to a beloved character's creator with a biopic that proves the story behind the scenes is just as timelessly engaging. Lucy Kalantari & The Jazz Cats present 'It's the Holidays’ a seasonal concert featuring music from their holiday EP with original songs commemorating Halloween, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa and New Year’s celebrating community, unity and togetherness.

Kalantari is an award winning children’s artist based in Brooklyn, New York, making jazz age inspired music for families. In 1960 Jane Jacobs’s book The Death and Life of Great American Cities sent shockwaves through the architecture and planning worlds, with its exploration of the consequences of modern planners’ and architects’ reconfiguration of cities. Jacobs was also an activist, who was involved in many fights in mid-century New York, to stop “master builder” Robert Moses from running roughshod over the city. This film retraces the battles for the city as personified by Jacobs and Moses, as urbanization moves to the very front of the global agenda. Many of the clues for formulating solutions to the dizzying array of urban issues can be found in Jacobs’s prescient text, and a close second look at her thinking and writing about cities is very much in order. This film sets out to examine the city of today through the lens of one of its greatest champions. Tchaikovsky’s much-loved music is matched to a magical adventure on Christmas Eve for Clara and her Nutcracker doll. Peter Wright’s production for The Royal Ballet keeps true to the spirit of this Russian ballet classic, with period details and dancing snowflakes. GREMLINS
A gadget salesman is looking for a special gift for his son and finds one at a store in Chinatown. The shopkeeper is reluctant to sell him the `mogwai' but sells it to him with the warning to never expose him to bright light, water, or to feed him after midnight. All of this happens and the result is a gang of gremlins that decide to tear up the town on Christmas Eve. Sunday, December 23 at 7:30 pm and Sunday, December 30 at 6:45 pm.

Buddy (Will Ferrell) was accidentally transported to the North Pole as a toddler and raised to adulthood among Santa's elves. Unable to shake the feeling that he doesn't fit in, the adult Buddy travels to New York, in full elf uniform, in search of his real father. As it happens, this is Walter Hobbs (James Caan), a cynical businessman. Playmate Playwrights presents LOVE IS STRANGE
Hopewell Theater is proud to partner with Playmate Playwrights to present a conglomeration of six original one act live play readings in one evening. Playwrights, Jonathan Chiccino, Joanne Eisenberg, Meghan Malloy, Jennifer Nelson and Susan Sandor had the option of taking the theme in any direction they chose, making for a diverse body of work. You may laugh, cry, or sigh in your seats. “Our mission is to bring our works to life live on stage, make them memorable for the audience, and to help us grow as playwrights,” says Susan Sandor, producer of the performance. The plays are directed by veteran actor and acting instructor, Joey Perillo. This is the group’s second staged reading, the first of which played to a sold-out crowd and received big-hearted accolades from the audience. Saturday, February 2 at 8 pm
