Christ the King School Newsletter - December 11, 2018
Dear Christ the King Families,

Hope Abounds
I wrote to you all this past summer the following to commence our school year and reveal our theme of hope : As we await the journey of learning and discovery that is ahead of us, may you all rest in God’s wings as you enjoy the gentle breeze of summer. Know that you are important members of this special community -- in the greatest ministry of them all. Our theme this school year rests upon the theological virtue of hope. Jeanne Bucci’s beloved husband, Bob, included this wonderful quote of hope in his fatherly blessing at Matthew and Maggie’s wedding celebration, “Of all the forces that make for a better world, none is so powerful as hope. With hope, one can think, one can work, and one can dream. If you have hope, you have everything.” May this powerful quote land peacefully in our hearts, and inspire us all toward more hope in our lives.
This theological virtue has led us through a semester of enduring blessings and has led countless prayers, church masses/services, communications, decisions, morning assemblies, meetings, retreats, and songs. Hope was the theme of our first week of Advent, and the first candle to be lit on the Advent wreath as a reminder of God’s promises being fulfilled.  Hope abounds as we await in our hearts and homes the coming of the baby Jesus in celebrating Christmas….
Hope for our students’ futures
Hope for a bright tomorrow
Hope for a magical Christmas Concert
Hope from the Feast of the Immaculate Conception this past Saturday
Hope for the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe this Wednesday
Hope for reconciliation services for our third through eighth graders on Friday
Hope for our second graders celebrating their first reconciliations this Saturday
Hope for health, peace, and happiness
Hope for our world
Hope for our community
Hope in the Saint Vincent De Paul baskets that are being prepared with generosity and love
Hope in the CTK tradition of Saint Boniface gifts
Hope for our talented and dedicated faculty and staff to return renewed from the holiday break
Hope for our parents, grandparents, and special members of our community in honoring their commitment, sacrifices, and resources
Hope and gratitude for our pastor Father Paulson, priests, sisters, and parish staff
Hope in the photo above as I was honored, yesterday, to meet with Nicole Yackee and her new born son, Luke. 😊
Lastly, I send special gratitude and blessings to Nicole Yackee, her husband Rob, their son Luke, and their families as a family decision was made for Nicole to be at home with Luke during this time. Subsequently, Laura Abel who has done a great job in Nicole’s absence will be completing the school year in her continued role as reading specialist. Looking forward with hope, peace, and joy (the themes of the first three weeks of Advent) to our Christmas Concert next Tuesday as planned.

Abundant blessings,

Joe Silveira
Principal
Christ the King Catholic School

Award Winning Essays
We are pleased to announce that a number of our 7th and 8th grade students have recently won awards for their writing! We are very proud of their hard work and the effort that they put into their essays.

7th grader Maddie Karst recently won first place in the Patriot's Pen Essay Competition, sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Association. Her essay eloquently addressed the theme "Why we should honor the American flag."

8th graders Carlos Feliciano and Abigail Stofer were awarded second and third place, respectively, in the St. Thomas More Society Essay Competition. This contest was sponsored by the St. Thomas More Society of San Francisco, an organization of Catholic lawyers and judges. In their essays, the Carlos and Abigail reflected on the following quote from St. Thomas More's book Utopia : “Kindness and good nature unite men more effectually and with greater strength than any agreements whatsoever, since thereby the engagements of men’s hearts become stronger than the bond and obligation of words.”
