Rank-Choice Voting
On Saturday, January 11, 35 members heard Larry Garfield speak to the idea of Ranked-Choice Voting at either the municipal, state, or national level. We learned there is a SB 2267 sponsored by Sens. Murphy, Bennett, Steans and Peters, which proposes amending the Illinois Election Code to provide ranked-choice ballots for the offices of Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, Comptroller, and Treasurer. You can read more about ranked-choice voting here. Thanks to Mary Haley for putting this event together.
Great Decisions
Our Great Decisions groups will start meeting in February.  There will be three locations for the eight different topics covered this year for the meetings from February to May. You can check the schedules and topics at River Forest Library, Maze Branch Library, and Brookdale. If you would like to purchase the book that goes along with these discussions, please contact Maria Jepson at 630-408-1560  or Alex Matthews at 708-848-1584. Cost is $32. The schedules will also be posted on our website.
Stamp Approved
With this stamp, the Postal Service commemorates the centennial of the ratification of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which guarantees women the right to vote. Inspired by historic photographs, the stamp features a stylized illustration of suffragists marching in a parade or other public demonstration. The clothes they wear and the banners they bear display the official colors of the National Woman's Party - purple, white and gold. Art director Ethel Kessler, U.S. Postal Service Art Director, designed the stamp with original art by Nancy Stahl.
Please welcome new members Patricia Herrera and Diane Scott to the LWV family. Glad you are on board!
