Pat Pomeroy How long have you been in Chamber work ?
20 years

How long have you been in your current position
17 years

What do you love most about your job?
I enjoy working with our businesses, the City of Mauldin and our community. I especially enjoy planning the Ribbon Cuttings to welcome our new businesses and being a part of a Chamber that works as a team to promote our City. The Chamber is the Welcome Center for the City. I have the opportunity to meet many amazing people from all over the United States and promote our business members in the Greater Mauldin Area.

Tell us about your most embarrassing Chamber moment.
I was the speaker at a local event and realized I had forgotten my notes. I began my speech with "I have misplaced my notes" but I really don't need notes to share all the reasons that the Greater Mauldin Chamber is the best Chamber in the Upstate. It is amazing how long a 5 minute speech can be when you don't have all of the material that you need. Grateful that I knew most of the attendees and I was able to add some humor to the speech.

Who has had the biggest impact on your career and how?
I spent a great deal of my time volunteering for many different non-profit organizations when my children were growing up. I had the opportunity to meet and entertain my husband's business clients from all over the world. I was once a small business owner and can certainly relate to the small business owners and their challenges. When I was offered my first Chamber job my family encouraged me to take the position. I enjoy going to my office each day and working with our many different businesses and with the community.

What is your Chamber's signature event? Tell us more about it...
Part of being a good Chamber is not just about business but the community. Working with the Chamber Board we started the first Breakfast with Santa. The City and the Business Community help make this event successful with their support. It is inspiring to watch the children (we make tickets available for families who cannot afford this event) and their excitement. The Chamber also brought the first Trains, Trains and More Trains to the community which attracts over 5,000 people to our City for an interactive train show. This event is held the first 2 weekends after Labor Day in September. The City of Mauldin and the Chamber have a great partnership and with their help this is a free event.

What is your favorite vacation destination and why?
When our children were growing up we spent our vacations at Litchfield. We spend time in Blowing Rock visiting our son and his family. I love the beach and my husband loves the mountains. We also go to Nashville, TN several times during the year to visit our daughter and our family

Tell us more about your family and what you like to do in your spare time...
My husband is a small business owner and my best Chamber volunteer. We are both from Nashville, TN. We have 2 children. Our daughter is a teacher in Tennessee and the mother of our granddaughter. Our son lives in North Carolina and is a Superior Court Judge and is married to Becca an attorney and the parents to our grandson. In my spare time I enjoy playing Bridge, reading, cooking and entertaining. I have published a cookbook and I am working on my second book. I have promise family and friends it will be completed by Christmas.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Growing up in Nashville our family would occasionally go to the Dairy Queen and as a little girl I thought it would be the best job ever to work there. After working at a restaurant when I was in school....I was completely over working at the Dairy Queen.
