ORHS
Your Community Brief from Oak Ridge High School
Friday, January 24, 2020

As we get ready to close out the month of January next week, in this issue we have included two important items for our Oak Ridge parents and guardians. If this applies to your household, thank you in advance for your participation.

1) Annual School Climate Survey.
Once per year we invite our parents and guardians to take a few moments to share their opinions on our high school (link below). Your survey responses are kept anonymous and the survey is not long, but we rely on the combined results for our school improvement planning. If you have a student at ORHS, please take a couple of moments and provide your feedback. (We need a 20% response rate to make the survey truly meaningful.)

2) Saturday, Jan. 25 Parent Academy for High School Parents & Guardians.
Below you will find all the details, but this is one event you will not want to miss. OCPS has geared this particular Parent Academy (to be held at Edgewater High School tomorrow morning) towards secondary families. This represents time very well invested if you have a high school student - online registration to save time.

Have a great weekend and thank you for looking over this latest issue!

Making sense of the chart: The chart is based on quarterly data from the U.S. Dept. of Labor for weekly earnings from the year 2000 through the end of 2019. It is not intended to infer that every student should go to or belongs in a 4-year college program. In fact, there are so many options such as those available through Orange Technical College that offer very high paying life-time career jobs. However, the chart does show how higher levels of acquired education consistently translate into a higher weekly paycheck year-after-year.

The following are the 2019 4th quarter median weekly earnings by level of education attained in the USA for those 25 years of age and older:
  • Less than a high school diploma: $596.00
  • High school graduate, no college (charted above): $747.00
  • Some college or associate degree: $870.00
  • Bachelor's degree and higher (charted above): $1,382.00
  • Bachelor's degree only: $1,259.00
  • Advanced degree: $1,579.00
