The Carefree Cave Creek Chamber is a member of the East Valley Chamber of Commerce Alliance. The Alliance represents Chambers in Apache Junction, Queen Creek, Gilbert, Mesa, Tempe, Scottsdale and Carefree/Cave Creek. Together we are the voice of over 5000 businesses in this geographical area at the legislature. Members of the Alliance create a legislative agenda each summer and hire a lobbyist, Dorn Policy Group, to represent us and our agenda to the Arizona Legislature.
Over 1200 new bills are introduced each year. The Alliance monitors, closely, those bills which align with our agenda and impact the business community.

As the Town of Carefree looks ahead to 2020, several key initiatives designed to improve the business environment in Carefree are underway.
Evolution of the Town’s marketing focus to highlight economic development. After several years of relying on fairs and festivals to increase awareness of Carefree and to build traffic in Town’s business district, the Town will now focus more directly on attracting new businesses into Carefree and work directly with its existing businesses to help them take advantage of the new business environment. An Economic Development and Communications Director will join the Town staff within the next few months.
Wayfinding Signage Master Plan. The Town has begun the process to hire a signage master planner/designer to craft a uniform signage plan that will get help attract people into Town and then make it easier for people unfamiliar with the area to find restaurants, businesses and key attractions.
Improve existing Town Center pedestrian crosswalks. The Town commissioned a study to evaluate new technology and methods to improve the safety of the existing pedestrian crosswalks near the Town Center. Carefree is a pedestrian friendly community. Those who live within close proximity of the Town Center must be able to safely and comfortably cross our major streets to access our Town Center. Findings will be presented later this winter and many of these crosswalk improvements are anticipated to be completed in the next fiscal year.
The addition of the Hampton Inn and The View Carefree townhomes will bring a fresh vitality to the Town Center. Our goal is to help position the Town and our merchants to take advantage of this new energy.

February, another Month and another chance to enjoy Cave Creek.
Before I get into the fun stuff I need to once again point out the dangers of Globe Chamomile aka Stinknet. This invasive is very pretty but each of those pretty yellow balls has around 400 seeds in it. When it dries it is very flammable and has 5 to 6 foot flame heights. These heights will start your Palo Verde and Mesquite trees on fire. It is suggested that you have a 30 foot area cleared away from your house and I'd suggest you do the same for your Saguaros as well! There will be a presentation Monday February 24th from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Town Hall to educate our residents about how to deal with this invader.
On a happier note there is always something happening in Cave Creek especially during "The Season". Below are just a few of your options.
One of my favorites is Indian Village where Fry Bread is on the menu. My favorite is the Navajo Taco and it's a great combination of flavors and textures. Have a conversation with Bart, the owner, you likely won't forget it.
As usual every Wednesday and Friday there is Live Bull Riding at the Buffalo Chip with live music 7 nights a week. Don your Boots and hat and come on up and do some 2 stepping.
Janey's has live music nightly as well with some really great Arizona Artists! Speaking of Live Music join the Cave Creek Music page on Facebook to get a feel for what's available on a nightly basis.
Wednesdays is Prime Rib night at Harold's Corral and it really can't be beat.
Cave Creek has some really great restaurants well worth the trip.
Le Sans Souci at the top of the hill has Dover Sole served the traditional European way and is what I always choose. Absolutely mouth watering! Indigo Crow, Tonto Bar and Grill at Rancho Manana,
Stumblinas Cantina
. All great choices.
Cave Creek Museum, Horseback Riding, Hiking, Mountain Biking, golf. Cave Creek just might be, no is, the best little Town in Arizona.

When did the first general store open in Cave Creek and who was the proprietor? The first general store reported by the late Cave Creek historian Frances C. Carlson was on Continental Mountain and the proprietor was William B. Hellings. If the name sounds familiar it’s because Mr. Hellings’ name is embedded in early Salt River Valley history. He was one of the founders of Phoenix. He started as a civilian storekeeper or fort-sutler at Camp (later Fort) McDowell, established 1865, and keenly observed the need and opportunity for feeding hungry cavalry horses in the new Arizona Territory (1863). He became one of the first homesteaders in early Phoenix, Hellings established the
Salt River Flouring Mill
, he operated a hog-raising enterprise selling pork, bacon, and lard, around 1870 he opened one of the first stores in Phoenix. Historian Patrick Grady indicates Mr. Hellings opened a store in Tucson in 1875. Later, the prospect of gold in Cave Creek attracted Mr. Hellings’ entrepreneurial spirit and he became one of the most important founders of early Cave Creek. In 1873, Mr. Hellings hired fifty men and built the first Cave Creek Road.
In 1876, Mr. Hellings purchased several mines on Continental Mountain, including The Continental Mine (hence the Mountain’s name). He also purchased The Golden Star Mine (later called The Golden Reef Mine); the Golden Star Mining Corporation was soon established and it was the first mine in the area to be capitalized with the sale of stocks, $10 million dollars in this case, about $244 million in 2020 dollars. Hellings’ thriving mountain-mining-colony included an assay office, dining room, quarters for the miners, a saloon, and Cave Creek’s first store! Most of the hard-working miners’ income stayed on Continental Mountain and with Mr. Hellings.
