Calling all students interested in working on a Spring conference! Did you know that the BTI Consortium has a budget to support student conferences? Well, we do!
So far this year, we have provided marketing and financial support for the BU Graduate Program in Religion’s
Religion and Technology graduate conference and the
Second Annual Imago Dei Conference held at the Boston College School of Theology and Ministry. Next semester, we have already signed up to provide the same for the International Mission and Ecumenism Faculty Committee’s consultation on
World Christianity and the Arts (4/5/19 at the BCSTM) and a conference focused on
Feminist Studies in Religion, being chaired by HDS.
Grants typically range between $500 – $1,500, and our only firm requirement is that there be at least three BTI Consortium schools on the planning committee.
Students at the Hebrew College Rabbinical School have expressed interest in a session focused on Judaism, and there is interest at Hartford Seminary in one examining an aspect of Islam. If you might be interested in joining a planning committee for either, please let us know. We can connect students with similar interests to help move these conferences along!

What would Maimonides say if he lived now? How would our reading of the Torah change if it were on an iPad rather than a scroll? We update our phones, we update our operating systems, why not update our Judaism?
Join Eser in Spring 2019 for “Ten Millennial Updates to Jewish Living.” Over the course of the 10 weeks — from the first week in March through mid-May — Eser groups will gather throughout Greater Boston to converse about diverse including race, love and sex, the passage of time, the Holocaust, bioethics, Jewish humor and more.
What is Eser? Eser is Hebrew for 10, a number with special significance in Judaism. Eser brings together individuals in their 20s and 30s for conversations in neighborhood living rooms to build connection and community.

Jewish immigrant bankers helped shape the mass migration of Jews from Eastern Europe and the development of 20th century American finance. Entrepreneurial Jewish immigrants formed small banks to facilitate purchasing passage to America. Their innovative credit mechanisms gave immigrant Jews, who could offer no collateral, access to basic financial services. They encouraged immigrants to invest in new homes, contributing to the immigrants’ economic success and the expanding U.S. economy. A reception and book signing will follow the lecture.
Dr. Rebecca Kobrin is the Knapp Associate Professor of American Jewish History at Columbia University.
