Do you want to be a Class Rep in 2019?
and we will contact you when
winter term schedules are sent.

Dear OLLI Members,

We hope you are all warm and safe during this blast of wintry weather.  We have included our adverse weather policy in this email so that you can review it. We have the meditation SIG and the Reuter Center Singers performance scheduled for Monday, December 10, and we will send an email tomorrow to let you know about our plans for those events.

Since you may have a little extra time inside today, take a look at the images in this newsletter of felted totes produced in Sally Pete's Fall 2018 course.  We are very lucky to have so many generous members like Sally who share their talents and encourage OLLI members to develop new skills. If you have an idea for a course or know someone who might make a great CFS instructor, click here to find out more about teaching in College for Seniors. We have also included a video in this email from OLLI members Mark Czarnecki and Jeff Jones, who are passionate about encouraging OLLI members to ride Asheville Transit to get to campus.

Next week will be our final email for 2018 as we close the office, the building and the registration system for our winter holiday break; we will resume all services on January 2, 2019. I will most likely be the only person in the office this Monday, so please be patient and leave a message if you have questions.

Thanks for all you do to model creative retirement,
Catherine Frank
Executive Director

OLLI's Adverse Weather Policy

OLLI classes, events, meetings and other activities will be canceled or delayed when UNC Asheville classes are canceled or delayed for adverse weather. We occasionally will cancel or delay classes when the university does not if conditions in the area or on campus may pose a danger to our members.

By 8 a.m. on bad weather days, the OLLI staff will post specific program information on our outgoing messages at 828.251.6140 and on our website at olliasheville.com.
We will, if possible, send an email to OLLI members by 8 a.m. explaining how weather will affect events scheduled on bad weather days.

Please remember that ours is a program of learning for the love of it.  If conditions are unsafe where you are, please stay in!
Your OLLI friends, instructors, SIG leaders and staff will be here when you can safely return!

Meditation SIG
Joy Through Movement
Monday, December 10, 4:15-5:45 p.m.

Steve Stevens
T'ai Chi Chih is a moving meditation established by Justin Stone in the 1970's. Steve Stevens will discuss the principles of t'ai chi chih. Then we will learn several of the 19 movements used to  of circulate and balance the body's energy (chi).  In closing, Steve will lead us in a sitting meditation practice taught by Justin Stone.

Steve Stevens took his first t'ai chi chih class at OLLI in 2010. He then went on to become accredited in t'ai chi chih instruction in 2013 at the Franciscan Spiritual Center in Aston, Pennsylvania. He teaches classes at OLLI and at Harvest House, an Asheville Parks and Recreation facility.

All OLLI members are welcome.
