A WEEKLY CONVERSATION WITH THE PASTOR

Surely God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid, for the Lord God is my strength and my might; he has become my salvation.   Isaiah 12:2

I remember singing and even dancing to this verse with great gusto! What an uplifting song of trust and confidence in God's promise of salvation!  It is with this type of faith and joy that we can anticipate this Advent/Christmas what God will and already has done for us in Jesus Christ.

The snow and sleet got us this past Sunday. We missed seeing a lot of people in worship and at Beer and Hymns, but understand due to the wintry road conditions.  I encourage you to come out this week for our Wednesday night Advent Meal and Reflection and to consider signing up for a 30 minute time slot to participate in our Prayer Vigil this Friday, Dec. 14 (6pm to Sat. 6am). You can call the church office to sign up also.

We are now less than two weeks from Christmas! May we prepare our hearts by turning to God our Savior.  My family and I look forward to sharing with you in the many traditions of this very special season of the year.

See you in church!
Pastor Gillikin

ADVENT REFLECTION ON WEDNESDAYS - There will be a time of reflection each Wednesday during Advent, 7-7:30pm in the worship space, that will include a contemplative prayer liturgy called "Advent Intentionally" (from resource www.waytolead.org) that can be taken home to use on a daily basis.  Each week we will take a moment to focus on a part of Mary's Song (the Magnificat), gleaning some insights from Martin Luther's commentary and Johann Sabastian Bach's musical composition.  Our reflection will be short and thought provoking.  All ages are welcome!

IT'S NOT TO LATE!!  COME JOIN THE CHOIR AND MAKE A JOYFUL NOISE.

Epiphany's Choir needs your voice.  Our choir is an essential part of worship each Sunday!  Come sing with us at practice after Worship each Sunday in the choir loft.   If you would like to consider singing with the choir for its Christmas Cantata (Dec. 23), you are encouraged to come to practices after the worship service on Sundays. If you have questions, please contact Epiphany's Music Director, Mrs. Hannah George at [email protected].
At Hannah's request, I'm organizing a chime choir to play in the late service (10 or 11 p.m.) on December 24 - less than two weeks away! I will be at the church this (Wednesday, 12/12) afternoon at 4:00 to set up tables and chimes for willing ringers to explore before our Advent meal and reflection time. In the meantime, I'll be texting/calling/emailing potential ringers to talk about good times for practice sessions. We can and will make beautiful music together!

401K, IRA's and other MANDATORY DISTRIBUTIONS

Dear friends,

When we reach age 70, we have to start taking funds from our savings accounts which become taxable income to us.  Please check with your CPA or financial firm before 12/31/18 and before you take your distribution.   There are ways to avoid the taxes on these distributions and we have several members who are pursuing this smart financial strategy and we are very grateful to them..  You may designate your distribution to your church and/or other non-profit organizations if you wish.  Blessings,  Sarah
