Westland's Lions Pavilion Wins 2018 APWA Project of the Year Award
REVISED

Westland, MI (December 11, 2018) - The American Public Works Association, Downriver Branch (APWA) has awarded the Westland Lions Pavilion, located at Westland's Tattan Park, with a 2018 Project of the Year Award in the category of Quality of Life Projects Less than $1 Million.  This award also provides eligibility for the statewide APWA Project of the Year competition.   There were 7 other APWA awards presented at this year's year end celebration hosted at Lakes of Taylor Golf Course on December 6, 2018.

In February, the Westland Downtown Development Authority approved a plan to construct a new 3,000 square foot, open-air pavilion which will compliment the existing Farmers Market Pavilion and share several of the design elements and building materials.  The structure is comprised of 3,000 square feet and serves to accommodate the growing popularity of the Westland Farmers and Artisans Marketplace as well as the other amenities at Tattan Park.

The pavilion, which bears the name of the "Lions Pavilion" was built as a replacement for the original Lions Pavilion which was originally financed and built in the late 1970's and was later removed due to the remediation of the park.

The project was Designed by OHM Advisors and constructed by Westland-based SolĂ© Building Company.  Construction began in August of 2017 and the Pavilion opened for public use in June of 2018.  The total cost of the project was $610,000.

"We are thrilled to receive this recognition from the APWA," commented Mayor Wild."  "This is the fourth straight year our projects have received a Project of the Year Award from the Downriver Branch.  Westland's other award winning projects include Westland City Hall in 2015, Newburgh Road Improvements in 2016 and the Parkwood and Bennington Road and Water Main Reconstruction in 2017."
