Anti-semitism in Jersey City
With news reports trickling in that the murderous rampage in Jersey City that killed a brave police officer, Detective Joseph Seals, in the line of duty, and three others, at least two innocent Jews, Mindel Ferencz and Moshe Deutsch - we are once again saddened and shocked to see that violent anti-semitism is alive and well in our midst. It is hard to believe that these horrible scenes that have become so commonplace in Europe have crossed over to our shores, and, all this, within living memory of the Holocaust.

I happen to be traveling today, walking around city streets. And, while it is cold outside and I should be wearing my hat - I am, B'davka, keeping my hat in my pocket, preferring to wear my Kippah openly and proudly for all to see. Our immediate response should be just this.

We will not abdicate our streets and communities to hate-filled anti-semitism. We will not cower to the hate; while we have to be careful and vigilant, we must stand taller and prouder, identifying ourselves ever more as committed and steadfast Jews in this great country. As Charlie Harary said so eloquently on Shabbat: "Am Yisrael Chai."  We continue to live - in the present - and faithfully into the future.

May the memories of all those who died - from innocent bystanders, to police officers in the line of duty, to those Jews who died Al Kiddush Hashem - endure as blessings for their families and for us all.

With prayers for Shalom Al Am Yisrael,

 Summer 2020 Itinerary
A Journey to Spain, Portugal and Gibraltar
Join us as we travel back in time, with Rabbi Morgenstern and JRoots ( www.jroots.org), to learn about a thriving Jewish culture that molded a rich Sephardic heritage and influenced Jewry throughout the world. Jews arrived in Spain over 2,000 years ago. Spain and its surrounding provinces were once home to the largest, most prosperous and cultivated, Jewish communities in the world. We will encounter the roots of some of our most important thinkers and Jewish leaders like the Rambam, Rav Yehuda HaLevi, Isaac Abarbanel and others. We will also interface with local centuries-old communities of Marranos/Crypto-Jews, who adhere to a "hidden" Jewish identity and culture to this day - concluding with a special Shabbat in the beautiful modern Jewish community of Gibraltar. We will also, of course, visit world heritage sites and places of historic importance and beauty throughout our journey through Portugal, Southern Spain and Gibraltar. It promises to be an unforgettable experience.
Couples and Adults welcome.

Dates: Sunday, August 2nd - Sunday August 9th
Price: Approx. $2500/person (includes all ground costs)
Not including flights into Lisbon and Malaga
