UPDATE: CHRC Call for Proposals FY2020
The CHRC FY 2020 Call for Proposals generated 79 applications requesting $36 million in funding; to access the list of applications click here. This year the CHRC budget provides $6 million for new grant awards

Applications received by the CHRC this year are currently under review. Selected applicants will be invited to present to the Commission on March 18-19, 2020. Applicants will be contacted with the status of their application review following the CHRC meeting on February 26, 2020. The presentation schedule and meeting location(s) in Annapolis will be announced two weeks prior to the meetings.
Since its inception, the CHRC has awarded grants totaling $71.3 million to fund 236 programs which have served over 485,000 Maryland residents across all 24 counties.
CHRC provides briefing on its rural health grants to Health & Government Operations Committee
Earlier this month, the Health & Government Operations Committee invited the CHRC and Maryland Rural Health Association (MRHA) to present on the impact of CHRC-funded programs in rural communities. To access the presentation click

The testimony from CHRC and MRHA highlighted how rural health grants are implementing creative and practical strategies to address barriers that exist in rural communities and are achieving demonstrable health outcomes and generating cost savings. Strategies implemented by CHRC rural health grantees include utilizing telehealth services to address a lack of health care providers; providing access to transportation services; and leveraging innovative community-hospital partnerships to reduce avoidable hospital and EMS utilization.
The CHRC has awarded 121 grants totaling $31.1 million to support rural health programs, and these grants have served more than 102,000 Marylanders. For more information about CHRC rural health grants, click

Harford County Opens the
Klein Family Crisis Center
Earlier this year, Harford County received a two-year grant from the CHRC to support the opening of its new crisis center in Bel Air which provides 24/7 access to mental health and addiction services in this rural and underserved area of the state. The Klein Family Harford Crisis Center offers Urgent Care/Walk-in services, short-term residential treatment, and a bridge outpatient services. Urgent Care/Walk-in services began in June of 2019, providiing services to over 1,400 clients to date. Residential services began shortly after Labor Day of 2019, and have served 170 patients to date. The Crisis Center tends to clients in crisis as well as those whose issues are just beginning to surface.
This community integrated model provides an array of services included an imbedded Crisis Hotline, Mobile Crisis Team, and Benefits Coordinator from the Harford County Health Department. This replicable model, designed to serve vulnerable patients and help achieve reductions in avoidable hospital utilization, can serve as a template for crisis centers throughout the state.

The grant to Harford County to support the Klein Family Crisis Center is one of 64 grants awarded by the CHRC, totaling $17.5 million to support access to integrated behavioral health services in the community. Maryland Community Health Worker Training Program Accreditation and Certification Update!
Through the application process, applicants provide evidence of the CHW certification training program requirements including: a minimum of 1
00 hours of instruction; include an objective knowledge assessment; verification of successful completion of an additional 40-hour supervised
practicum
by the student; and, use of a
curriculum framework that incorporates, at a minimum, the Maryland CHW nine core competencies below

An organization that wishes to offer a CHW certification training program must be accredited by the Department as set forth in the Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR) 10.68.02.

Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's 16th Annual Prevention Day - Monday, February 3rd
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA) will have its 16th Annual Prevention Day at Gaylord National Resort, National Harbor, MD on Februay 3, 2020. This exciting one-day event will bring together prevention practitioners, community leaders, researchers and consumers in the behavior health field, and feature discussions on prevention priorities by SAMHSA leadership.
Other speakers will discuss evidence-based preventive interventions and findings from the latest developments in the areas of substance abuse prevention, treatment, recovery, and mental illness.
