What Are Your Options If You Owe Taxes?
If you have received an IRS delinquency assessment you will generally be given a month to pay the owed amount in full or else the IRS will consider collection actions against you. No one will show up at your door but rather you will continue to receive a series of threatening notices demanding payment. If ignored, eventually you will be contacted in person by an IRS Revenue Officer.

When considering your options, you must determine whether you intend to contest the assessment or accept same. This article discusses the most common options available in the event the amount of  tax  assessment is not contested.

New Sexual Harassment Policies and Complaint Forms
Pursuant to a new State statute that takes effect October 9, 2018, all employers are required to immediately establish a sexual harassment policy and provide the policy in writing to all employees in their primary language, and continue to provide employees such policy on a yearly basis.  This applies to public and private employers, regardless of the number of employees.

For information and assistance updating your sexual harassment policies and/or for training options, email us.

Did You Know You Could Lose Your License For Owing Taxes?
Taxpayers in New York can face a  driver's license suspension  if the taxpayer owes $10,000 or more in taxes, penalties, or interest, and no resolution has been made to resolve the tax debt. When New York State identifies delinquent taxpayers, it sends a notice informing them that they have 60 days to enter into a collection resolution with the State.

Social Security Benefits and Changes Coming in 2019
In 2018, you can continue to work and receive Social Secuirty benefits and your earnings in the month you reach full retirement age will not reduce your Social Security benefits.  However, if you start receiving Social Secuirty benefits before the year you reach full retirement age you lose $1 in benefits for each $2 in earnings you earn above the annual limit of $17,040.  In the year you reach your full retirement age, you lose $1 in benefits for every $3 you earn over $45,360 until you reach full retirement age.  Once you reach full retirement age, you can keep working without any reduction in your Social Security benefits no matter how much you earn.
