MEET THE CANDIDATES

Dear FBC Members,

Please join the Minister of Music Search Committee and the Organist/Music Assistant Search Committee as we introduce our candidates for each of these positions on Saturday, May 22. The Minister of Music Search Committee has been hard at work all winter, and we are delighted to present a candidate for this position to the church! In the course of our search, a candidate for the Organist/Music Assistant position became available, so that committee is pleased to present this candidate to you as well.

There will be times for those involved in the music program as well as the congregation to interact with the candidates. Handbell ringers, adult choir members and lay leaders in the music program are invited to attend small group events specifically designed for them. An email invitation with additional details for these gatherings will be sent to those groups soon. Our candidates will also be involved in leading the worship service on Sunday, May 23.

All FBC members and their families are invited to meet the candidates in person during a receiving line-style event from 2-5pm at the church. After parking, please enter the garth area from Edenton Street to speak with the candidates. Afterward, we ask you to exit the courtyard and return to your car. In order to minimize crowding and wait times, please register at this link for a 45-minute visitation window.

19TH ANNUAL GA TEA

The 19th annual GA Mother Daughter Tea was held again in Dawn Wade’s beautiful front yard, but this year we upgraded from last year's "bring your own lunch" to having Chick-fil-A and delicious Bundt cake desserts served on trays made by the girls for their mothers. And of course we had lemonade in the famous Gurgling Fish pitcher. Our two 5th grade GAs received a long stem red rose for their years of leadership and example in first through fifth grade missions as well as their own personal hymnals for their many years in music. Guests this year included our female ministers, wives of our male ministers, and our honorary GA, Bob Talley, who graciously serves as our resident photographer for many of our children's outdoor gatherings. All GAs and leaders enjoyed the tea, but we’re looking forward to next year’s “Proper Tea” back in the fellowship hall. - Nancy Moore Phillips, Mission Director
RA CAR RACE

During their last several outdoor sessions, our RAs have spent some of their time honing their car-making skills -- their end products resulting in smoothly sanded and carefully painted derby cars which will hit the track at our outdoor RA Car Race on Saturday, May 22!  In preparation for that race, we need your help in determining the bragging rights for “Best Paint Job”!

Below are eight fine-looking, carefully crafted cars. Please take a look at them and vote for the number that represents the “Best Paint Job." Email Lynn Lingafelt with the number you choose between now and next Wednesday, May 19!  The winner will be announced at our RA Car Race on Saturday, May 22, and will be promptly announced in our next Rose Window Weekly as well!
NEW HELEN WRIGHT CENTER SERVING DATES

For the past year through our partnership with And Also With 'Cue, we have been providing dinner to the women living at the Helen Wright Center. The Helen Wright Center offers emergency shelter to single women without children who are experiencing homelessness. Ever since the pandemic began, this has been a contactless experience that involves picking up the food from our church kitchen and delivering it to the Helen Wright Center where it is served by their employees. We have already committed to several dates in 2021, and would love your help in making these deliveries. If you are able to help deliver for one or more of these dates, please email Leah.

NO SIGN-UP NEEDED FOR WORSHIP

Beginning this Sunday, no sign-up is needed for worship. You will still need to enter the church in one of two ways: through the main front doors on the Capitol Square or through the back parking lot door with the covered ramp off the McDowell lot. From there, we'll simply ask you to sign-in with sanitized pens so we can do our due diligence if contract tracing is needed. The doors will open at 10:30am and we will lock the back door at 11am, so please arrive in time to go through a check-in station monitored by deacons and get settled in the sanctuary before worship begins. We ask that those who are more mobile consider parking in the government lot or deck or on the street so that those who are less mobile can have easy access to the McDowell lot entrance.

We will not require temperature checks at the doors, since hospitals are no longer requiring them, but please answer all the questions on the form, and revisit them on the day of worship. We will require everyone to remain masked throughout the service and remain safely distanced (we will have pews marked appropriately). We ask that you pick up an order of worship off the tables in the narthex and in the gathering room. We'll also have offering baskets on those tables, since we will not be passing the plates during worship. There will be receptacles for trash and recycling when you depart. We will continue streaming the service on YouTube, for all who may want to continue worshiping virtually. We appreciate your patience as we adjust to a new rhythm on Sunday mornings.
CLOTHING MINISTRY DONATIONS NEEDED

After a longer-than-expected COVID-19 closure, we are making preparations for a Clothing Ministry grand re-opening! As you all may know, we have been doing some major renovations in our space, including new flooring and paint. We are deeply grateful for the many laborers we have had over the past few weeks that have helped paint, as we transform this space into something new and fresh. We can't wait for you to see it! Part of our re-opening plan includes restocking our donations so we can safely open to the public. Mark your calendar for our tentative re-opening date - Monday, August 2, from 10am - 12pm!

We will be accepting donations of new and gently used clothing (any season!) and shoes during drive-thru donation drop-offs in the back parking lot on the following dates:

Saturday, May 15th, 11am – 1pm
Wednesday, May 19th, 11am – 1pm
Wednesday, June 9th, 11am – 1pm
Saturday, June 12th, 11am – 1pm

We ask that you bag all donations by categories – men’s, women’s, and children’s.
We are unable to clean or repair donated clothing, so please ensure that your clothing donations do not have stains, rips, or broken zippers and buttons. WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING DONATIONS OF HOUSEHOLD ITEMS other than suitcases, backpacks, and blankets.

If you are a regular volunteer of the Clothing Ministry, be on the lookout for an email soon about ways that you can help over the coming weeks! If you are not a regular volunteer but would like more information, please email Sabrina Tyndall. Thanks for your continued support of this ministry!
INFORMATION NEEDED FROM COLLEGE GRADS

Class of 2021, congratulations! We want to recognize your accomplishments, and celebrate these milestones alongside each of you. If you are graduating from college, we would like to have the following information for our church's publications.

Please email Deborah the following information:
• Graduate's name
• College
• Degree
• Your relationship to the graduate

All responses are needed by Friday, May 28.
FLOWERS FOR WORSHIP

With our return to in-person services, if you would like to donate flowers or designate your selection of our banners with a donation to the Day Mission Fund, please email Myra Brickell or call her at 919-812- 6680.
HIGH SCHOOL
SUNDAY SCHOOL SCHEDULE

We will host high school Sunday School in-person (weather permitting) in Tonya and Lin Carter’s backyard through Sunday, May 30. The address is 4914 Carteret Drive, Raleigh, 27612. Please bring your own camp chair! Our new time is 9:30-10:30am. We will continue to offer a virtual option; email Mary Nash Rusher for the Zoom info. We will NOT have Sunday School on the high school retreat weekend (May 23) or Senior Sunday (June 6). We are hoping to be back in the Blue Room on June 13 at 10am, but that is subject to Risk Assessment/staff decisions.

WAYS TO GIVE

There are several different ways in which you can continue to support the church financially during this time of social distancing. We know many people are facing their own financial challenges right now and have been very generous already, but a number of people have asked how they could support the church while we are unable to gather together physically. Wayne Hager has provided the following answers to this question.

• We continue to receive mail daily. Any gifts mailed to the church will be processed and deposited as soon as possible.
• We will continue to debit bank accounts through auto drafts as we have been instructed by donors.
• If you have set up a recurring donation through one of our electronic options, those donations will continue without interruption unless YOU make a change.
• If you wish to begin electronic giving, please go to this link where each of our options is explained.
• If you are considering a stock gift, please visit this link for instructions.

If you have any financial or giving-option questions, please email Wayne Hager.
CURRENT OFFICE PROCEDURES
DURING THE PANDEMIC

While the church office will remain closed to the public for the immediate future, we have someone in the office Monday through Friday, 8:30am-5pm to answer the phone and let people in for pre-approved activities. The staff and Church Council continue to monitor all realities related to COVID-19. In addition, we have formed a Risk Management Team (RMT) made up of John Baldwin, Sam Ewell, Ron Maness (chair), Alice Marshbanks, and Hollis Yelverton to help us make decisions. The RMT has developed a list of guidelines which can be found here. Any group wishing to schedule an in-person meeting or activity should contact Wayne Hager. We still encourage you to contact any of the ministers if you have a pressing need, using the following email links: Chris Chapman, Lynn Lingafelt, Leah Reed, and Michael Hood.
