Statement of MMA President and CEO John J. Walsh in Response to the Michigan Senate Republican Proposal to Open Michigan Safely

LANSING (April 16, 2020) — John J. Walsh, president & CEO of the Michigan Manufacturers Association (MMA) this afternoon responded to the Michigan Senate Republicans’ “Open Michigan Safely” proposal announced earlier today.

“Michigan manufacturers appreciate Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey and the Senate Republican Caucus for helping move the conversation forward on bringing Michigan’s economy back online,” said Walsh. “The safety of Michigan citizens is paramount as we establish plans to get people back to work and we believe a risk-based, measurable approach will allow manufacturers to get back to their work of safely driving Michigan’s economy.”

“As we talk to our members, we are confident we can establish best practices for safety that support broader social efforts to flatten the COVID-19 infection curve,” Walsh continued. “Michigan is facing two crises: one health and one economic. Manufacturers look forward to being a big part of the solution to both.”
