Crews prepare for slippery road conditions
With low temperatures expected to continue into the weekend, LUT Operations and Maintenance (Ops) crews have been applying anti-icing material to major roads in higher elevations.
"We've had dry, cold conditions the last few days, which are good for applying anti-icing material," said Todd Watkins, Ops manager. "During the night, some of the roads in the upper elevations get slick with ice and frost when temperatures are low."
Given Oregon's variable weather, there's always a chance rain could wash away the anti-icing material.
"It's a tough time of year to predict what kind of weather to expect, but we always focus on traveler safety," Watkins said. "We want to minimize slippery road conditions whenever possible."
