How to Download Apps
Downloading apps from the Apple's App Store or Android's Google Play:

  • Do you only want FREE Apps? It may be short-term cost-effective, but will probably come with lots of interrupting ads. After you use it for a while, it's OK to throw the developer a few bucks to support them and go ad-free. After all, you are getting free lifetime updates.

  • Number of downloads - are there just a few or thousands? More is better as it indicates higher usage and probably better performance.

  • Description - Read the description of the app and what it will do. Make sure that it will fulfill the function that you originally wanted.

  • Reviews - This is an average of customer feedback about an app’s overall user experience. Unless you have a special reason, opt for apps with at least 4 stars out of 5. And look at the reviews, especially the negative ones. Is there a common issue that may affect your device?

Remember, that to download an app, you must be connected to the Internet, either via Wi-Fi or your Cell service data plan.
Apple's App Store
  1. Launch the App Store.
  2. Click on the search icon (magnifying glass) at the bottom of the page.
  3. Type in your Search Query and tap the search button.
  4. Tap the App or Game you wish to purchase or download for free
  5. Tap Get if it is free, or the price of the app if it is paid.
  6. Place your finger on the Home button to activate the Touch ID or double-click the side button for Face ID. If you haven't enabled either, it will request your Apple ID to authorize the purchase, even if free. If you haven't previously entered a payment method for paid apps, you will be prompted to do so now.

Automatically update your Apps and Games:

  1. Open the Settings App
  2. Scroll down and tap on App Store.
  3. Under automatic downloads, tap App Updates to toggle the switch on.
  4. When enabled, app updates will automatically update every day for those apps that have updates from their developer.

Automatically download apps and games on one device onto others.

If you own more than one Apple device, like an iPhone and an iPad, you can automatically download apps and games onto all of them if they are all under the same Apple ID. But, you cannot download iPad-only apps onto an iPhone or iPod touch, but that is the only restriction.

  1. Open the Settings App.
  2. Scroll down and tap on App Store.
  3. Under Automatic Downloads, tap Apps to toggle the switch on.

How to disable app updates over cellular

If you have concerns about using up too much of your cellular data, it is a very good idea to disable downloading updates over cellular, especially if you have automatic updates turned on.

  1. Open the Settings App
  2. Scroll down and tap on the App Store
  3. Tap Automatic Downloads under Cellular Data to toggle the switch off.
Android's Google Play
  1. Click on the Play Store icon.
  2. Click on the search icon (magnifying glass) at the top of the page.
  3. Enter the search term or terms that apply to the app you want to find in the textbox at the top of the page. It says “Search Google Play”. Tap ‘enter’. a. For example, if you wanted an app that can help you edit pictures on your device, you would type in “edit pictures”. b. Many times the Play Store will anticipate what you’re looking for (just like Google.com) and suggest search terms. Just tap on their suggestions to accept.
  4. Select an item.
  5. Select Install or the item's price.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the transaction and get the content. If you made a purchase before: Select your payment method with the Down arrow. If it's your first purchase: Your payment method will be added to your Google account.
